She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, late Harbhajan (Surinder), late Ravinder (Satnam), Surinder (Harbir), Parmjit (Amarjit) and Balbir; 16 grandchildren and their spouses; and Surjit was blessed to see her 16 great-grandchildren. Surjit was born in a nearby village to Jalandhar, Punjab in India on December 15, 1925. She was born to Sardar Dilip Singh and Sardarni Bhagwan Kaur and had an older brother late Sardar Beant Singh. Surjit was an educated women in Punjabi and enjoyed reading Sikh scriptures as a devout practicing Sikh. Surjit survived her husband late Sardar Jaswant Singh Duggal for many years and continued to live with and was taken care by her daughter-in-law Satnam Kaur Duggal. Surjit lived through nine decades of changes in the world, travelling from Punjab, India to Leeds, England and joining her family in Winnipeg, Canada. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her five sons and their extended families. Surjit travelled often to their home to Jalandhar, Punjab in the company of her late husband Jaswant Singh when he retired. Surjit was lovingly known as Mama Ji to all her grandchildren and close family friends. She amused many of us with her humorous stories of a life well lived with her family by her side. You will be dearly missed by all Mama Ji and will continue to live on in our hearts and memories. Funeral service will take place on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg. Following the service, prayers will close at Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara, 900 McLeod Avenue, Winnipeg. The Duggal Family deeply appreciates all of the health care staff and teams at Concordia Place that made our grandmother's stay comfortable and treated us all with dignity and respect. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Heartfelt gratitude for all the love and support that we have received from family and friends over the years.
