Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL WILLIAM BUTLER 1961 - 2018 Michael William Butler passed away on January 14, 2018 at St. Boniface General Hospital. Michael was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Monika (nee Volk). Michael leaves behind to mourn his passing, his devoted parents, Brian and Marion Butler, his brothers, Jerry, Jim (Lesley), and Gordon (Beth); his sisters, Sheila McClarty (Blake), and Cindy Soulsby and his nieces and nephews. Michael was born in Gimli, spent his childhood in Winnipeg and in his teenage years moved with his family to London, Ontario, residing there until his death. After graduation, Michael began working in the kitchen renovation business. This proved to be a good decision because while working for her father's company, Michael met and fell in love with Monika. During their marriage, Michael and Monika enjoyed their home, their dog, Holly, and their beautiful backyard complete with numerous bird feeders. In 2003, Michael opened his own business, Custom Countertops by MB. Michael liked his work and spent many happy hours at his shop. Family mattered to Michael and his trips home to Winnipeg were very important to him. During his visits, whether it was helping his mom and dad, fishing at Jim and Lesley's cottage, going for lunch with Cindy, or just sitting around sharing stories with his family, there was always laughter. Despite his mild-mannered nature, Michael had a big, contagious laugh. In his gentle determined way, Michael brought us together as a family. We are so grateful for this past Christmas when we were all home to celebrate together. Shortly after Christmas, while still visiting family in Winnipeg, Michael was admitted to the hospital. Michael faced his cancer diagnosis in the same manner he led his life: quietly and without complaint. We will miss and forever love Michael. Thank you to Michael's caring friends at the shop and to the compassionate staff on the Palliative Care Ward at St. Boniface Hospital. In accordance with Michael's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. If friends, so wish, donations may be made in Michael's name to the FortWhyte Alive Centre or a charity of their choice. seasonsfunerals.ca
