GEORGE OELKERS 1928 - 2018 We are sorry to share the news of George's passing on January 16. George was predeceased by his parents, Dr Henry Oelkers and Anna Oelkers. George was a Certified Professional Accountant who worked at Millar McDonald, CN Realty Tax Department, and retired after 34 years in the Finance Department of Air Canada. He was a volunteer treasurer for over 25 years for both St. Peter's Anglican Church and the Air Canada Pionaires. He also did year end audits for other charitable organizations. George and Gladys travelled on many enjoyable trips. George enjoyed golfing, curling, and walking. His years in basketball led to him being honoured as being part of teams that were inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and the Basketball Hall of Fame. George leaves his wife of 46 years, Gladys, daughters Susan McDonald (Ron), Kathy Oelkers-MacDonald (Brian) and Terri Oelkers, grandchildren Gary, Jennifer and Chantal, five great-grandchildren, and other family members. We will miss his wonderful smile and positive attitude. Service will be held at St. Peter's Anglican Church, located at Grant and Elm at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 22, 2018. At tens years old I remember Georges sweet shooting at Paulin's practices. One practice a wag referred to him as "Goose Grease George", so smooth was his shot It was always a pleasure running into him and Gladys. I'm very sorry for your loss. I work at Home Depot on Kenaston and George walked through our store almost daily. He always had a big smile and hed stop to chat. Nearly everyday George would come into our work and walk through. He'd say hi to everyone, chat about the weather, and bring joy to the faces of all our associates. Dear Gladys & family, I am so sorry to hear of George's passing. Gladys, I was just thinking of you & George this week & wondering how you are doing. I always enjoyed working with both of you. George was always like a ray of Sunshine in my day. He always had a kind word & a great sense of humor.
