ROCCO ROSATI It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Rocco Rosati, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Rocco is survived by his wife Estrellita Rosati; his daughters, Odessa and Ursula Rosati; his sister Maria Lanzellotti and too many loving nieces and nephews to name (over 50 of them!). He is predeceased by his mother Linetta; father Nicola; brother Nicola and sister Gisella. Rocco was born in Fara Filiorum Petri, a town in the Province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region of Italy on August 16, 1937. He moved to Canada in 1959 at the young age of 22 with the intent to work hard and build a good life. And that he did. Acquiring his first business, Thunderbird Pool Hall, Rocco went on to start several more over the years including Topo Gigio's, Playland, Magic Mikes and Northwest Amusements. Chances are, if you have ever played an arcade in the 80s or 90s, you played on one of his machines. But his pride and joy and where he spent most of his time was at Bourbon Street Billiards, previously known as Las Vegas Amusements, where he remained until his retirement. Rocco will be known as "the best dad ever" (our apologies to those who thought their dads held this title). He was loving, generous, smart and had impeccable style. He was the type of dad who although worked extremely hard, still managed to make his daughters and wife his number one priority. He took them on many trips, but it was their travels to Italy for his family to see and appreciate his country that have become their fondest memories. Memorial Mass to be held at Holy Rosary Parish Church on Wednesday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Gerry Ward as the Celebrant. Condolences will be received at 10:00 a.m. Reception will follow at Thomson "In The Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinsons Society of Manitoba, 414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R2J 1P2. A special thanks to the staff at Oakview Place Extendicare and our family and friends for their loving care and support. Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I moved from Winnipeg in 1995, and some of my better memories was hanging out and talking with Rocco down at Las Vegas/Bourbon Street, and going for an occasional beer with him. I played a lot of pool and snooker, worked at Crystal Palace while at school, and enjoyed visiting with Rocco, even to the point of making Bourbon Street my preferred frequent. I actually would wonder how he was sometimes over the last 25 years. I wanted to tell someone today about those times, so looked for 'owner of Bourbon Street Billiards in Winnipeg' and came across this. It isn't surprising because it was so long ago I moved, but this did make me kind of sad. RIP Rocco! Ciou. - Posted by: Bill Rosmus (Friend) on: Oct 11, 2018

  • We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family! Jan worked with Rocco for number of years at Northwest Ammusements and considered Rocco a gentleman and great person. Rest In Peace Rocco! (Sorry just found out today of his passing.) - Posted by: Jan and Giselle Majersky (Jan was a co-worker ) on: Jul 21, 2018

  • It was with great sadness to hear of Rocco’s passing today. He was truly one of life’s “Wonderful People” I have played Snooker for close to 55 yrs now Played in 34 countries around the world and have never met a “Classier Gentleman” He did so much for the game of Snooker in Manitoba that I would hate to think how it would have been had he not been involved. One thing is for sure and I saw it happen so many times....if someone was struggling...lack of food.....place to stay and Rocco could help...he would. Having spoken to a few fellow professionals today the general consensus was he really cared for people. As soon as a snooker friend came into Winnipeg from out of town off they would go the Hy’s Steakhouse....No arguments!! Dapper Rocco loved running tournaments and having the top players in the country at his room. We did get used to being treated like Kings by Rocco and we’ll never ever forget that. To Estrellita, Odessa and Ursula my Deepest Sympathies. Rocco talked about you often and was so proud of you! Honoured to call him a Friend. • I had the pleasure of working for Rocco (known as Young Rocco by his employees and most of the regulars) off and on for 10 years. He was the kindest and most generous person with an incredible sense of humour that I had the pleasure of meeting. Always dressed to impress, he was a very laid back man and always walked in with a smile. I remember feeling spoiled to have such an awesome employer and that he set the bar for me with future employment later in my life. My sincere condolences to Lita, Odessa and Ursula. My heart is with you - Posted by: Renée Smith (Former employee ) on: Jan 20, 2018

  • To Rocco’s family. So sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of knowing Rocco in early 2000s at Bourbon Street Billiards for ten years or so and you couldn’t find a kinder, more gentle person than Rocco. He will be missed by family, friends and the pool players from Bourbon Street. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family.
