JOHN MAGNUSSON 1935 - 2018 John Magnusson passed away peacefully on January 18, 2018, at Concordia Place Personal Care Home, at the age of 82. A true Viking, he always led an active life, participating in many sports and doing a lot of travelling all over North America. He so loved to drive! In later years, he put those driving skills to good use volunteering for CancerCare Manitoba at the Health Sciences Centre. John was a very social person and that skill made him a successful salesperson. He was good at getting things done, at both his own firm of Portage Cartage and Storage, and at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church where he served as President of the Church Council for several years. He also loved to cook and we will always remember the delicious family dinners. He met his wife Thora at a dance back in the 1950s and they have been married for 61 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Barbara (Paul), son John (Debbie), grandson Erik (Alycia), and grandson Jason (Rahne). He was predeceased by his sister Margret and grandson Steven. His family was a source of pride and joy to him. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the exceptional staff at Concordia Place Personal Care Home. Services will be held on Friday, January 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, 7 Tudor Crescent, Winnipeg. A private family interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, 7 Tudor Crescent, Winnipeg, MB R2K 2A5 or CancerCare Manitoba, 1160 - 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My deepest sympathy to the family on the loss of their husband, father and grandfather. John was just the best of people - always had a little joke for me when he dropped by the office to "see how things were going" - he would say - anything that needed doing got done - Good bye John - I am sure your family has wonderful memories - I know I do. - Posted by: Lorraine Klippel (Administrative Secretary at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church) on: Feb 11, 2018

  • My husband and I met John when he moved us from our house to Osborne Village and we hit if off right away. Might have been our Icelandic background! Occasionally we would meet in our local Safeway store and have a chat. Sending our sincere condolences to your family. Colleen Olafson - Posted by: Colleen Olafson () on: Jan 25, 2018
