ARTHUR NICKOLAS KEMPAN Arthur Nickolas Kempan passed away peacefully on January 16, 2018 at St. Boniface Hospital, in Winnipeg, MB. He was 73. Arthur is survived by his partner Ying Kong; sons, Chris (Brandi) and William, Sisters, Ann Sheremeta (Bill) and Georgina Bittner; granddaughter Caitlin; sister-in-law Nora Taylor; nephews, Cliff (Sandy), Ron (Chona), Alan (Paula) and Jim (Luisa) Sheremeta; and nieces, Tracy Thompson (Shane) and Trina Robertson (Jared). Arthur is predeceased by his wife Mary Anne; parents, William and Isabelle, and mother and father-in-law, Helen and Humphrey Taylor, of Owen Sound, Ontario. Arthur was born in Yorkton, SK and grew up in the Wroxton area on the family farm. After high school graduation, he moved to Winnipeg and attended the U. of M., earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1973. He went on to earn his P. Eng designation and was member of APEGM from 1978 to the present. He married Mary Anne Taylor in Winnipeg during the spring of 1977. He worked in various engineering roles in the agricultural, industrial and aerospace industries in Winnipeg before retiring in 1996. Arthur was active in professional and community activities throughout his life. He was an APEGM councillor, member of Toastmasters and held various offices with the Society of Automotive Engineers. Arthur was a convener /coach of soccer programs and teams at Sir John Franklin Community Centre and volunteered with the Winnipeg Humane Society as a cat cuddler in his later years. Arthur loved his garden, travelling the world, and his cats: Smokey and Razor. A memorial service and interment will be held Thursday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home (1291 McGillivray Blvd.) In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada or CancerCare Manitoba.
