ROBERT LOUIS HAMM
Date of Passing: Jan 20, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT LOUIS HAMM 1937 - 2018 Bob's life ended on Saturday, January 20 after a bold battle against heart disease and cancer. He was accompanied in this struggle by his wife Sybil; sons, Rob and Mark; daughters-in-law, Pat and Jenn; and grandchildren, Sharyne (partner Andrew); Ethan (friend Marni) and Finley. He was also supported with thoughts and prayers and acts of kindness by his sister Rose (Peter and family); sister-in-law Agatha (and family), brother Ray (Marilyn and family); brother and sister-in-law Conrad and Sharon Shaw and brother-in-law Barry Shaw. Also by his community at Kiwanis Chateau. Those who Bob loved and lost: mother and father Susan and Ben Hamm; in-law parents, David and Lyla Shaw; brother Art; sister-in-law Verna Shaw; nephews, Albert and Patrick Shaw and his greatest loss - his beloved daughter Shannon. Bob worked 32 years with the Provincial Assessment Branch. On retirement he began a "hobby job" as Executive Director of the Manitoba Golf Superintendents Association, which lasted for 20 years. Great fun and great joy. He was involved all his adult life with enthusiasm and dependability in Senior Hockey - rescuing jerseys from dry cleaners, serving on executives, keeping player stats and updating websites for leagues across the province. He was ever the optimist. Laughter was ever his response to life. His children and grandchildren ever his love. But: No more rinks in the backyard. No more revving of the motorhome for a trip to Alaska, Newfoundland-Labrador, down the west coast. No more trips to Europe. No more soothing goalie mothers who think their sons' goals-against stats are askew. No more yearning for grilled bacon and cheese sandwiches. No more reminders about the only two worries - life and death. No more assurances that "I had a good kick at the can." No more hugs. Bob, it was a privilege to love you. It was a privilege to be loved by you. Our hearts are heavy. Our tears flow freely. We will always remember. Bob supported the Canadian Diabetes Association his whole life and the family would appreciate any donations in his name be made there. A come and go reception will be held Saturday, January 27 at Doyle's Funeral Home in Carman from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Doyle's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. www.doylesfuneralchapel.ca

Sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Thelma and I are on our holidays in Mexico and Thelma was informed of Bob's passing by Irene Rempel. Will always remember the fond memories of Bob when we played slo-pitch. Also, when I challenged him about his smoking, he had a stock answer- he smoked to keep the elephants away. And when I said, ¨So where are the elephants?, to which he would respond--SEE HOW EFFECTIVE IT IS? Our thoughts and prayers are with you and may God grant you strength to face the lonely days ahead.
