ALEX RITCHIE It is with heavy hearts that we share this notice of the loss of Alex Ritchie, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 17, 2018, to a warm and pain free place. Alex, you will always be lovingly remembered by Del, your wife of 69 years, filled with trust, love and devotion, like we partners for life have always shared and enjoyed. I miss you sweetheart but will feel your presence near me, always. Predeceased by his son Raymond and brother Tom; he leaves behind two sons, Grant and Paul, their wives Marjie and Pamela; along with his sister Margaret and brother Walter. Also mourning his loss are four granddaughters, Kristi, Marlee, Laura and Nicole, their husbands and four great-grandchildren. There are also many nieces and nephews both here and abroad who will recall visits with us over the years, who will be upset to hear that their uncle Alex has passed away. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Alex attended General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute. His work life began as a paper carrier for the Winnipeg Free Press. He then progressed through the company, retiring after 46 years as manager of the Accounting and Credit Department. He treasured the friendships he made with the many great people he met through his connection with the company. In his younger years he played hockey, baseball and bowled and he was always up for a round of golf. He curled for many years and was very active within the Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association. Leisure time was spent at the cottage in Whytewold, on Lake Winnipeg. Alex spent many years on the board at Chalmers United Church, which was later amalgamated with Greenwood United and is now known as McClure United Church. The closeness with special friends there, has remained an important and fulfilling time in the lives of Alex and Del. Alex was one of the finest fellows on earth and it has been a blessing and our privilege to have shared our years together. May God bless all of our family and our many friends for the closeness Alex always enjoyed with each and every one of us. No floral tributes please. If friends so wish, donations in remembrance of Alex may be made to McClure United Church, 533 Greenwood Place, Winnipeg, R3G 3M1. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • My mom Agnes Reid worked with Mr. Ritchie for years at The Free Press. She always spoke so highly of him. I had the pleasure to work for him part time when I was still in high school (with his son Ray). He was very kind gentleman with a good sense of humour - a wonderful boss. Condolences from our family to yours. - Posted by: Barbara (work friend) on: Feb 03, 2018

  • My sincere condolences to Del and her family.... At one time they were also my family. Alex was someone I loved and thought of as my dad for several years. I cherish the happy memories and will keep them in a special place in my heart, right next to Ray's. - Posted by: Phyllis Caroline (Formerly his daughter-in-law) on: Jan 28, 2018

  • Mr. Ritchie was my first boss and a very good one. He always had a smile when he dropped off my papers to me around 1948-1952. He encouraged good work habits and rewarded me with a wrist watch for perfect, no- complaint service. This set my lifelong work attitude for which I am still very thankful. - Posted by: Gary Jones (Free Press Carrier) on: Jan 28, 2018

  • Mr. Ritchie was my boss. There was no one better than he was. Always had a smile and a hello. He will be missed by not only his family but the friends he made through his life's journey. Rest In Peace Mr. Ritchie. - Posted by: Roz (Boss and friend) on: Jan 27, 2018

  • Alex Ritchie was my Dad's boss at the Free Press. Then one day while I was still in High School, Mr Ritchie asked my Dad if I wanted a summer job. Eventually I worked full-time in the Accounts & Credit department and Alex Ritchie was my boss. And a Great Boss he was. Years later when my Dad passed, Alex Ritchie called my Mom to offer his and Del's condolences. Mrs Ritchie, and family, please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. - Posted by: Barb (former co-worker) on: Jan 27, 2018
