CONRAD WILHELM SIGURDSON 1932 2018 Conrad Sigurdson passed away on January 18, 2018 at Grace General Hospital after a brief illness. Conrad is survived by his wife, May Lin Cheong and their son Matthew. He is also survived by his former wife, Karen Wokes and their children, Steven, Jon (Janet), Kristine (D.J. Sigmundson), Thor, Peter (Jennifer Ryan) and his grandchildren, Bridget (Christopher), Kristjana, Julian, Elena, Anna and Duncan. He is also survived by his sisters, Grace and Elizabeth. Conrad was born in Sandy Hook, Manitoba, June 25, 1932, to Jon and Inga Sigurdson, as the eighth of ten children. After his father died, Conrad had a special relationship with his stepfather, Peter Sigurdur. His entire working life was in the field of education - he worked as a teacher, school administrator and consultant. Beginning in 1963, the family spent an amazing three years in Katsina, Nigeria where Conrad taught school. The family continues to enjoy memories and friendships that were developed during that time. Conrad's interests and passions were his family, his extended family, his love of learning and teaching, and his church. Conrad was an academic. His education began in the one room Sandy Hook School, and continued in Winnipeg for high school and university. He returned to university for his Masters of Education and his Ph.D at the University of Wisconsin. Through his teaching and travels, he was mentor to many and formed lasting friendships in Winnipeg, Nigeria, the US, England, Iceland, Australia, France, Montserrat and northern Manitoba. A memorial service of Conrad's life will take place on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 400 Rouge Road, Winnipeg, MB. The service will be led by Pastor Carol Janke.
