GIACOMINA (LINA) CASTAGNA (nee COSTA) It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and Nonna, surrounded by her family, on January 25, 2018 at the River View Health Centre. Lina's memory will be forever cherished by her husband of 54 years, Michele Castagna; children, Saverio (Lori) Castagna, Tony Castagna, Mario Castagna and Rina (Frank) Consiglio; grandchildren, Dante, Cassandra, and Isabella Consiglio, and Lauren Castagna; brother Nicola (Carmela) Costa; sister-in-law Maddalena Castagna; and many nieces and nephews, and their families. Lina will also be remembered by many family members in Italy. Lina was born in Rosarno, Italy on May 20, 1947. In 1962, she married her true love and together they immigrated to Canada and built a life with their four children in Winnipeg. Lina's greatest joy was her children and grandchildren, and being together as a family. To her, family was everything and she showed her love for us through her generosity and devotion. Aside from being a loving wife and homemaker, Lina was an accomplished seamstress responsible for outfitting many Winnipeg homes with their elaborate furnishings and for helping to build lifelong memories through the creation of many wedding and graduation gowns. The family would like to thank Alicia and Frank Consiglio for the enduring support and friendship they extended to Lina and the family during her time of illness. Special thanks to Dr. Matthews for his exceptional care and compassion, and to the doctors, nurses and staff at the St. Boniface Hospital, 5th Floor and the River View Health Centre Palliative Care for ensuring her comfort. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue with Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Viewing / Condolences will begin at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, located at 1501 Waverley Street. Pallbearers will be her grandson Dante Consiglio and nephews, Tony, Franco and Nick Costa, and Saverio and Aldo Castagna. Honorary pallbearer will be her nephew Mike Castagna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lina's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, www.lls.org/donate, 2 Lansing Square #804, Toronto, ON M2J 4P8.
