PAUL MICHALENKO
Born: Jul 25, 1930
Date of Passing: Jan 27, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL MICHALENKO It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved dad and GeeGee, Paul Michalenko on January 27, 2018 after a lengthy battle. He faced his illness with fierce determination and utmost courage, and through it all he found peace and accepted that this illness would one day take his life. Dad was born on July 25, 1930 in Narol, MB. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Stella with whom he shared over 40 years of marriage. Dad is survived by his children Dan and Pam, Sandi and Don, and Cheryl and Dave. He was the proudest GeeGee of his six beautiful grandchildren, Kasey-Lynn, Kali, Jason, Stefanie, Amanda and Eric. He loved spending time with them, teaching them how to fish, how to yell 'Bingo' and he especially loved when they came to visit. Dad was also predeceased by his parents Katherine and Dmytro, brothers Stafford, Mike, Kazmir, and sisters Mary and Nell. He is survived by his brother Bill (Joyce), and sister Adele. Dad was born at the family farm in Narol, MB and took pride in sharing the stories of his childhood with his children and grandchildren. As a young boy, he helped work on the farm and rode horses into Winnipeg to deliver their harvests to the markets. His strong work ethic continued throughout his life from his baking days at Christie Biscuits, to 'Paul the Barber' and the River-East School Division from which he retired in 1993. His love for life exuded from him each and every day. He never hesitated to lend a hand when anyone needed it and never quit until the job was done. He loved spending his summer weekends with family at our cabin in Spruce Sands and was always quick to find 'just one more job' to do. We enjoyed many weekends sitting by the bonfire listening to all of his wonderful stories of his life. Dad's magnetic personality touched the heart of every person he met. His smile was infectious and his laughter would fill the room. When you were in his presence you always knew how much you were loved. We will no longer see that beautiful smile or hear his laughter, but we will ALWAYS know how much he loved us. Thank you to the Government Avenue gang. You are truly a special group and we thank you for the times you took to be with our dad. A special thank you to Dr. P. G. Mehta for your years of compassionate care for our dad. Our family would like to express our immense gratitude to the amazing people of the Palliative Care team who from the first moment they met left a lasting impression in our dad's heart. Our heartfelt thanks to Lori and the nurses; his homecare team Nahom, Ali, Andrew and Armando of which he thought the world of; and to his special nurse Anita. The sincerity, kindness and compassion each of you showed our dad will never ever be forgotten. You are truly Angels on earth. A Celebration of Life will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity you hold close to your heart. Rest in Peace Dad and GeeGee, we love you Forever and Always. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

Our family had not heard about your dad's passing until I saw that his house was for sale. Danny, Sandi and Cheryl, we send our sincere and heartfelt condolences. Your parents were great backyard neighbours. Your dad always had a smile and a laugh to share. In our growing up years, the Threadkills and the Michalenkos were a part of the fabric of our lives. We send our prayers and our sympathy to each of you on behalf of my dad, Mr. Wilson, and our family. - Posted by: Joanne (Wilson) Poirier (Neighbour) on: Apr 30, 2018

Our sincere condolences to the entire Michalenko family for your loss. Paul was my father's best man at his wedding back in 1952. My father Steve, (the only brother) had two of his six sisters; that both married into the Michalenko family. My father passed 30 years ago...you were blessed to have had your father with you for so long. I hope you all find comfort with fond memories. - Posted by: Katherine & Family (Our fathers' were friends and family) on: Feb 01, 2018

I remember Mr. Michalenko from my days at Donwood School in late 70s early 80s. He was always a friend to the students and had a wise word of advice everytime you would talk with him in the halls. He and Mr. Harry Rowgowski were two of the biggest characters always joking and laughing adding something special to the day. Over the years I would occasionally run into Mr. M at the store etc. and he always took time to talk and say hello. It's amazing now in my forties how one person can be remembered for their kind and gentle way all these years later. Rest in Peace Mr. M. - Posted by: Jeff Thompson (Former student at Donwood School) on: Jan 31, 2018

Cheryl, Dave, Amanda and Eric, We send our deepest condolences to each of you. We had the pleasure of meeting your sweet Dad & Gee Gee when he visited you in Spruce Grove. Upon meeting Paul he wrapped me up in the biggest bear hug as though we were old friends. After meeting him I felt like I’d known him all my life. He made THE best perogies I’ve ever tasted and one morning at 7 am at your front door he put a ball of homemade dough in my hand so I could feel the beginnings of those delicious perogies! Cheryl you had just arrived home from an early morning grocery store trip so your Dad and your Aunt could begin their day of perogy making while you were at work. Your Dad beamed with pride for his family and the care you delivered to your Dad as he aged was admirable. When I read the tribute to Paul in the paper I see so many of the same qualities in you Cheryl. I know you will all miss Gee Gee so much, cherish your many memories. Love you all, Richard, Kristy, Carter & Lauren xoxo - Posted by: Kristy Guidinger (Family friend) on: Jan 31, 2018

My condolences to Pam and Dan,Kasey and Kali , at this difficult time. I share your sadness as you grieve the loss of your father and grandfather. I did not know Paul but heard stories from you, Pam, about Christmas celebrations and family times. He will be missed in the family circle but I know there will be many wonderful memories that you will share together as a family. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend The Celebration of Life service on Friday, but, I want you to know that you will be in my thoughts and in my prayers. Saying good-bye to a loved one is never easy . I know you will find comfort in the gathering of family and friends and in the words of the service that will bring comfort as you face the days, and weeks, and months ahead. Hugs for you all.
