OLIVE MILDRED STOREY September 20, 1927 - January 22, 2018 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Olive Storey after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Gord in 1972, and her parents and parents-in-law. Her memory will be cherished by her children, Carol of Winnipeg and Doug and Monica of Calgary. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Philip and (wife) Emily of Vancouver, and Nicola, residing in Berlin. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Marion, brother and sister-in-law, Noel and Anita of Vancouver, and many nieces, nephews, and longtime family friend, Lorraine. Olive grew up in Vancouver with her three siblings, marrying Gord, the love of her life in 1950. Her two beloved children, Carol and Doug, arrived in 1951 and 1956. After the untimely passing of her husband in 1972, she continued to operate the family tire business. She became a pioneer as the first female general manager in an independent tire company in Canada. Later she went on to have a long and successful career as the Executive Director of the Western Canada Tire Dealer and Retreaders Association. Despite a busy career, she always made her family the center of her world. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed baking delicious meals, treats and preserves for her children and grandchildren. She was a gracious and hospitable host for many family dinners and celebrations. After retirement, Olive enjoyed visiting her family and friends in Calgary and Winnipeg, her garden, and travelling. Nine years ago, she relocated to Winnipeg to be near her daughter. She enjoyed many wonderful friendships in her short years in Winnipeg. Olive will be remembered for her warm and gracious manner, her sense of style, and love of family. We were blessed to be able to celebrate with her at her 90th birthday and grandson's wedding in 2017. A celebration of Olive's life, conducted by her nephew Father Michael Storey, will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue. A reception will follow. A memorial service and interment will be held in West Vancouver in mid-May (details to follow). Guests are encouraged to wear pearls in honour of Olive. If desired, a donation may be made in Olive's memory to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, her preferred cause. Do a kind deed or say a kind word to someone who needs you. Then our mother will live forever. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit www.chapellawn.ca Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 204-885-9715
