CAROL LYNN MAXWELL On Sunday, February 4, 2018 at St. Boniface Hospital, Carol Lynn Maxwell passed away, with her family by her side, at the age of 66. Born in Nipawin, SK, Carol graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She began her career in Alberta and Saskatchewan before moving to Manitoba, working in Morden and Winnipeg. Carol worked the majority of her life as a Public Health Nurse in Manitoba. She loved her work, and all the people she would meet. Her colleagues were also very special to her, and she formed relationships that lasted well beyond retirement. One of her favourite sayings was, "friends are the family you choose for yourself," and no one could personify that better than her. Her love of entertaining and cooking led to many lively nights with friends, and often resulted with guests taking home buns and other specialties. She was always thinking of others and went out of her way to let you know how special you were to her. Carol was predeceased by her father Samuel (Sandy) Maxwell, and her aunt Pat Berry, and she is survived by her son Casey (Mandy), her daughter Carla-Jean (Devin), her granddaughter Georgia Lark, her mother Gladys, her brother and sister-in-law David and Laureen Maxwell, nieces Sheena (Adam) and Tiffany (Colin), her nephew Spencer (Veline), great-nieces and nephews, and her cousins, neighbours and friends too numerous to mention. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to CancerCare at St. Boniface Hospital, namely Dr. Altman, as well as the nursing team and the staff of 6A. A memorial service will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery) on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honour of Carol to the Children's Hospital Foundation. Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Carol and Frank went to school together in Nipawin (Carol was the smarter of the two of us). Carol, my sister Marguerite (now Doyle) and I shared many great times together, mostly after school. Carol had great parents, Sandy and Gladys Maxwell, who always did an in-depth interview with us before allowing Carol to escape into our company. It usually took several minutes for the effects of parental direction to wear off, then Carol was her usual great self again. The last time that we visited with Carol was at her father, Sandy's funeral in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. She looked fantastic, was bubbly and always enthusiastic. We are pleased to call the Maxwell family, our friends. We convey our deepest sympathies to Gladys and all of Carol's family. • I'm so sorry to hear of Carol's passing. We had such fun back then. Only one of many memories - Someone had a car and we were wanting to go to Aylsham. Some party or something. Problem was - the parents kept track of the mileage. We decided to drive backwards. Needless to say we only drove about a half mile before driving forward again. We then ventured forth with our Nipawin adventures. I'm sending Carol's family and friends all the strength they need during this very sad time. - Posted by: Marguerite Doyle (School Friend) on: Mar 12, 2018

  • Carol and I worked in the same building over the years in health. Although her and I would work in different programs Carol always took the time to say hello and to ask me "how things are going" I found her always dressed up to the 9's and always with a beautiful smile on her face. Carol was kindhearted. She seemed very conscientious with her clients. I heard about the news today and feeling rather sad, as she died too young. Carol-may you be at peace and pain free. We have lost one of the good ones down here. My condolences to everyone in her family. Keep smiling Carol!! - Posted by: Evelyne Goupil (Co-worker) on: Feb 27, 2018

  • My sincere condolences to Carol's family. She was an excellent public health nurse with high standards for nursing practice. I always appreciated her genuine caring for others, her lovely smile and hearty laugh. She was a brave, strong woman. It was a privilege to know her and work with her in public health. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Margaret Ogonowski (Friend) on: Feb 25, 2018

  • I have been blessed by knowing Carol in so many ways. She nurtured me as a young public health nurse guiding my career path. I witnessed and received her care, compassion and giving nature both professionally and personally. Carol cared deeply for all with whom she interacted. I will remember her beautiful smile and laughter. I am very saddened by her passing and send my condolences to her family. - Posted by: Lorraine Dacombe Dewar (Colleague and Friend) on: Feb 13, 2018

  • Casey and Carla-Jean — you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Your Mom was a special lady and invested so much into the lives of my sister and I as young ladies growing up next to you. She cared so much for us as people (not just as next-door babysitters) and that has long made an impact on me. I know she’ll be missed greatly by you and your families. - Posted by: Candyce (Janzen) DeKruyff (Friend) on: Feb 12, 2018

  • My sincerest sympathies to your family Carol. I will always cherish the 6 months you guided me in my first Public Healh position, I couldn’t have asked for a for a more amazing mentor. Your passion for familys’ and community health, was evident in your day to day practice. I loved your no nonsense attitude and practically, and would amiss if I didn’t add the appreciation I had of your afternoon desktop coffee breaks. May you Rest In Peace, and your family and friends take comfort in their memories with you. - Posted by: Kim Stoffel (Co-worker/friend) on: Feb 10, 2018

  • Where would I start? Words would not be enough to provide due diligence to you Carol. You were my Public Health Nursing practicum preceptor. You set the foundation for my career with your wit, kindness, skill set, beliefs and values. Over time you became my colleague and then my friend. May you rest well.
