MARY ZASITKO (nee GLITNAK) It is with deep sorrow and sadness the family of Mary Zasitko announce her passing on February 3, 2018. Mary was predeceased by husband Bill in 2000. Surviving are her children Margie (Leif), Gloria and Randy (Kristin), her grandchildren, Greg (Deanna), Holly, Justin, and Lauren - all of whom she was extremely proud, and her six precious "greats". Mourning her loss are brother Bill (Lovey) Glitnak and sister Helen (Dan deceased) Torbiak, along with in-laws Helen (Bill deceased) Horodecki and Theresa (Norman) Beckman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was born August 10, 1931 in Saskatchewan. Married in 1950, Mom led an adventurous and busy life. Never shying away from hard work and devotion to raising their family, Mom and Dad's journey took them throughout Manitoba, first farming and then owning and operating a number of small businesses. On occasion, Mom would strike out on an independent road, working at the Winnipeg Free Press and PharmaPlus. Following Dad's passing, a four-legged companion entered her life. Shelby offered unconditional friendship and kept Mom busy and active with numerous walks and trips to Walmart for his food and special treats. His passing a few years ago left a hole in her heart. Blessed with a sharp mind to the end, Mom was an avid reader, puzzle solver and formidable Scrabble player - not many could beat her. As a testament to her character and strong will, Mom remained in her own home until days before she found her comfort and peace. Thank you to all involved with her medical care. In lieu of flowers, Mom would love you to aid a furry friend with a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment will take place at a later date. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Sincere condolences to your family on the passing of Mary. My parents have been neighbours with Mary for over 20+ years and she will be greatly missed! She was a lovely and friendly neighbour. Mary set the bar high for a beautiful lawn and gorgeous gardens, not to mention highly successful tomatoe and rhubarb plants (the envy of my mum!). Mum will miss those being passed over the fence. Mary was also thoughtful and generous. I remember Halloweens and trick or treating with my young son. When Mary saw it was us at the door, she disappeared and returned, not with candy, but a bin of Play doh!!! Seeing Mary and Shelby out on walks was something I was used to seeing on every visit home. How they loved to walk! Rest well Mary! - the Humphrey family - Posted by: Racheal Humphrey (Neighbour) on: Feb 09, 2018

  • Mary was surely a lovely woman, and a great neighbor to us for nearly 24 years. We have wonderful memories of both Bill and Mary. Mary was always asking about our family and interested in how we were doing. One of my most fun memories is of a couple years ago when a Mario (her right hand man. Lol) took her for her 1st motorcycle ride at age 83! I ran out to the street to capture the smiles on her face as Mario took her up and down the street! We frequently saw her walking her beloved Shelby all around Westwood! Mary will surely be missed. Condolences to her family and know, she will live forever with fond, fun memories in the minds of her neighborhood friends. Rest peacefully my dear friend.
