Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER (MURRAY) STRONG December 13, 1934 - January 23, 2018 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Murray at the Riverview Health Centre. Murray is survived by his devoted and loving wife Val, his children and grandchildren, David (Emilie), Isabella and Samantha (Australia), Ken (Arlene), Daniel and Ashley and their mother Kerry; Lauren (Fred) Mathew and Christopher. Also surviving is his much loved sister-in-law Sally and her family, brother Ron (Frieda), Lyla, several cousins and extended family and friends in Australia, and our special friend, Gill in England. Murray was predeceased by his parents and grandparents, Arthur and Laura, mother Margaret, sister Judy and his dearly loved in-laws, Jim and Eva and brother-in-law Al. Murray married his high school sweetheart in 1957 and they celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2017. Murray had lifelong friendships up to 65 years and worked for the CNR for 38 years. He was a true gentleman and always ready with a helping hand to family, friends and neighbours. Murray was very proud of his children. He taught them how to stand on their own two feet, be independent, have good sportsmanship and good work ethics. He was thrilled when he became a grandpa/papa and always wished he had more years to do all the fun things with them, but that was not to be, due to his illness. Growing up Murray played piano and sang in The Winnipeg Boys Choir; always involved in sports, he won many awards for swimming and diving, played soccer, football, pitched in a fastball league and played hockey. When his family was growing up he coached hockey and soccer and played in an old timer's hockey league. Respecting Murray's wishes there will be no formal service. Cremation and family interment has been held. Please come and share your memories, and lunch on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Special thanks to all the staff at Riverview involved in Murray's care over the years, as we appreciate their excellent work and caring attitude always given to Murray and our family. No flowers please, but if you wish, and in "memory of Murray", a donation to Riverview Health Care Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4 would be appreciated. "You were such a good man and will always be remembered with good memories and love." My dad was a very caring human being and my hero. I remember growing up as a kid and my dad being our hockey coach. He was a great coach and it’s always tough being the coaches son as they are always hardest on their own kids, and dad was no exception . My family loved it when dad and mom came to visit us on many occasions . We miss you everyday dad and I know I will see you again one day xoxo - Posted by: David strong (Son) on: Aug 15, 2020

I went to school and worked at CN with Murray for many years. Also knew Val since we were kids. My wife and myself offer our condolences to the Strong family who have lost such a decent, caring man. - Posted by: Ron and Bertha Smith (school and work friend) on: Feb 10, 2018

Growing up in Fort Rouge Murray was a neighborhood friend a couple of years older for whom I had great respect. He was a very good athlete and in his own quiet way was a team leader on the fast pitch and soccer teams by his performance. While not a demonstrative man I always thought he had a strong inner confidence and courage! We had the pleasure in recent years before his illness of sharing good times at Matlock with Murray, Val, Sally and "big" Al and their families. We are sorry to lose this good man and send our sympathy and best wishes to Val and all of Murray's family and friends! - Posted by: John & Charlotte Rendall (Friends) on: Feb 10, 2018
