HUGO BARTZ September 10, 1934 - February 12, 2018 With tearful eyes we watched Him suffer and fade away ... While holding onto our hands, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Hugo, took his last breath in the early morning of February 12, 2018, at St. Boniface Hospital. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Maria (his Mary); daughter Corinna; son Michael (Ulrike); and grandchildren: Alina, Lilly, and Jonas. Hugo was predeceased by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his two sisters in Germany. Hugo was born in Leslau, Germany in 1934, and immigrated to Canada in 1960. He worked as a painter for several companies, and before retiring he worked for the River East School Division Maintenance Department. Hugo was a humble man, hardworking, and took great pride in his work ethic. His family and his beloved cottage were important to him. He loved spending time outdoors, travelling, and working on the family cottage. Our thanks go out to Dr. Spranger and the nurses, especially Kelly, who showed such great compassion for Hugo in his final hours. We especially wish to thank the Palliative Home Care Program and the nurses for their caring and support during Hugo's illness, especially his nurse Anita (our Angel). This program is such an important and vital service to people living with cancer and to their families. We will be forever grateful to have had this support. A celebration of life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. Pastor Bruce Gelhorn officiating.
