KENNETH DAVID MCEWEN It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Kenneth David McEwen, at Seven Oaks Hospital on February 9, 2018. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Kay and Arn McEwen. He is survived by his brothers Gary (Barbara); Doug (Judy); and Stewart (Lynne) and his nieces and nephews: David, Allison, Steve, and Sarah (Jeremy), and special friends, Mikki, Arlene, Kerrie, Bob, Tanyss, and Stuart. Ken was born in Winnipeg on September 16, 1947. He grew up on Hazeldell Avenue in East Kildonan. The Duke, as he was known by the family, loved to play football or baseball on the street with all the neighbourhood kids. Ken grew up to become the cool dude. Ken left Winnipeg and moved to Vancouver where he had a variety of jobs. Finally establishing himself as a Lighting Product Specialist, at Wesco, where he worked for 40 years before retiring and moving back to Winnipeg to be with his family. Ken loved sports, especially his NFL team the Minnesota Vikings. For over 40 years, Ken cheered for his beloved Vikings, to no avail. He was so happy this year, when the Vikings made the playoffs. As we know, Ken loved the ladies. At any party Ken would end up talking with all the women because he found them more interesting. Ken's favourite spot in the fall time was going on trips out to Oak Hammock Marsh. He loved to see the geese flying over and it reminded him of his hunting days, which he used to enjoy with his grandpa, dad and brothers, Gary and Doug. We would like to thank the ICU at Seven Oaks Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion they gave the family and friends. A celebration of Ken's life will be held in Stonewall on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Stonewall. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations in memory of Ken may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, or Oak Hammond Marsh. MacKenzie Funeral Home Stonewall 204-467-2525 info@mackenziefh.com

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Sending my sympathy and condolences to Ken's family, and to my good friends, Mikki, Stuart, Bob and Tanyss. We are lucky to have so many wonderful memories of Ken, of the good times we all shared together, in East Kildonan and at lake cottages. Ken was a very special friend. His thoughtfulness, his kindness, his humour, his style! Ken was always the 'cool guy', and a friend forever. My thoughts will be with all of you on Saturday, as you celebrate Ken's life. I send my love and wish I could be there with you too. For Ken, you always had that 'twinkle in your eye', just like the stars in the sky! Shine on my old friend, you live on in our hearts! - Posted by: Joy Whitley Syskakis (friend forever) on: Feb 20, 2018

  • Fond memories of Ken who I met as a teenager through my sister Cathy and Mikki. Ken always had a kind word, brotherly advice and an infectious laugh. One memory is when I first moved to Vancouver from Winnipeg and wasn't able to find a place to live. Ken said there was an upstairs landing in the house he was living in with a few others where I could stay. I ended up staying 4 months until I found my own apartment. Thank you Ken. Condolences to Ken's family. Especially Doug and Judy, from Wrangler. - Posted by: Jane Little (Friend) on: Feb 19, 2018

  • I have a hundred stories about Ken (that I can back up with photographs) over the last 50 years. We had such good times and if I close my eyes I can still hear the chuckle in his voice when we would reminisce about them. I will always miss him. My condolences to all his family.
