HENRY SHLOSSER, P. ENG Hank to his family and friends. April 18, 1948 - February 13, 2018 Hank passed away unexpectedly after a short illness at the Grace Hospital, on February 13, 2018. He was predeceased by his father, John and mother, Franziska. Hank will be fondly remembered by his wife Carell, and his three children Hugh, Lilian (Joe) and Amelia (Nigel). As a young child Hank, along with his parents, immigrated to Montreal from Austria. He always had an insatiable fascination for anything mechanical and technical. These interests motivated him to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from Sir George Williams University, now Concordia University. Concluding his formal education, he moved to Winnipeg with his first wife Lois. Hank's technical expertise and ingenuity earned him employment, most notably, at the University of Manitoba, Bristol Aerospace, and Manitoba Hydro. Hank ultimately forged his own path as an accomplished entrepreneur establishing Niagara Engineering Works in 1996, where he worked tirelessly and passionately until his final days. Hank was a true gentleman, charming and quick witted, an art and history enthusiast, he also loved windsurfing, Bridge, travelling with Carell, upcycling legacy technology, motorcycles (and anything with a combustible engine or electric motor). One of his simple pleasures was enjoying a good glass of scotch. On weekends, Hank could often be found at the shores of Lake Winnipeg at the cabin he lovingly built with Carell. In testament to Hank's lifelong love of technology and ideas, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Manitoba Electrical Museum (680 Harrow Street) on Sunday, February 18 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please join us in celebrating Hank's life with a toast and eulogy at 1:00 p.m. Final interment will be performed in the spring at Hnausa cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your charity of choice in Hank's honour. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • We are shocked to hear of Hank’s passing. We wondered over and over what had happened to Hank and Carell? We missed your regular weekend visits to the store. We only just now found out what happened. Our hearts are so sad and our deepest condolences to you dear friend! - Posted by: Pete + Elaine Slough + Christine Peters (Friends from the Riverton Thrift Shop) on: Mar 31, 2019

  • Very sorry to hear of Hank's passing. Though I didn't have the pleasure of meeting his family, they should rest assured that Hank will be genuinely missed everyone who new him. Hank helped me develop the first professional studio microphone designed and built in Winnipeg. Unfortunately it never made me millions but it doesn't matter...the best part was going to Hank's shop to discuss this or that tweak or idea, which would inevitably evolve into an hour-long discussion about any number of interesting topics from politics and music to speculative UFO technology (I'm only half joking!). I especially liked poking around Hank's unbelievable collection of .... well...you name it. Need a giant photographic table for shooting pictures of maps? Hank had one. Need a hydraulic punch to stamp out foam seals for the back of a microphone capsule? No problem...Hank had one of those, to...and if he didn't have it, he'd just make it. That's how he was. - Posted by: Kelly Dueck (Client) on: Feb 22, 2018

  • We worked with Hank over the past four years to develop hardware and software for the vending machine industry. He was a pleasure to work with. We will miss him terribly. Our most sincere condolences to Carell and family. - Posted by: Don Rischuk (Business Associated) on: Feb 21, 2018

  • Our deepest condolences to Hank's family. He will be sadly missed as a summertime neighbor who could always be counted on for a good conversation and helping hand. I will always remember Hank and Carell having a supper of hotdays and wine on the beach, complete with white table cloth on a lovely summer evening. (before the mosquitoes started) You knew they loved one another deeply when you saw them together. forever friends Liz & Stephen - Posted by: Liz & Stephen Murdock (Lake friends) on: Feb 18, 2018
