EVELYN KARALASH August 26, 1945 February 12, 2018 Following a courageous struggle with dementia, it is with great sadness, that the family of Evelyn "Evie" Karalash announces her passing into eternal rest at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, on Tuesday, February 12, 2018, at the age of 72. Evie was born at home, in Barkfield, MB, the daughter of George and Mary Wiens who passed before her. She will be forever remembered by Edward, her husband of over 40 years; daughters: Judy (Randy) and Amanda (Cory); son: Steven (Diane); grandsons Brett (Jennifer), Lyle, Nicholas, and Blake; and her sisters: Irene and Shirley. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Evie loved gardening, crocheting, reading, country music, watching wrestling and Robin's Donuts coffee. Memories of enjoying Evie's company while sharing her favourite music, books and movies, will be cherished by all who knew her. A special thank you goes out to the incredible staff at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Evie was taken into her new home only seven short months ago, but in that time, she was always treated with love, compassion, respect and dignity by all the people entrusted with her care. Those with dementia are still people, and they still have stories, and they still have character, and they're still individuals, and they are all unique, and they just need to be interacted with on a human level. To these men and women who reflect these words, and who were always there for her, the family can't thank you enough. Thank you as well to all the staff at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home who helped and guided the whole family through this difficult time. They were truly a pleasure to work with, took the time to make sure we understood everything that was needed of us and were able to answer all our questions with knowledge and compassion. In keeping with Evie's wishes a private family service will take place at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Evie's name to The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, and would be sincerely appreciated by the family. • I offer my heartfelt condolences to Evie's family. Her family was my second family growing up. I am so grateful for all the times Evie included me in family dinners for birthdays, holidays and anytime in between. I look back on that time with a greater appreciation each year. Ed, Judy, Stephen and Mandy, I wish I could be there with you. Please know you and your families are all in my thoughts. - Posted by: Dianne Michalak (Family Friend) on: Feb 17, 2018

  • My memories of Aunty Evie are many and joyful. Lots of fun was had when I would stay at her house and get into trouble with her daughter Judy. Family gatherings were important to her as we grew up and I will forever hold them close. - Posted by: April Boer (Bowcott) (Niece) on: Feb 17, 2018
