MARGARET (PEGGY) JOSEPHINE FYKE Peacefully, after a brief illness, our beloved Mama and Grandma passed away on February 20, 2018, at Riverview Health Centre. Left to cherish her memory and mourn her passing are her son Ward (Shirley); daughter Dawn (Kevin); granddaughters Nicole and Kaylee Fyke, Allandra Sloboda (Zachary), Courteney, Payton and Maryn Brown; brother Bruce (Jocelyn); sister Beth (Ivan); sister-in-law Gwen, brother-in-law Leverme (Joyce), and Ken (Dawn). Mom will be sadly missed by cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends too numerous to mention. Mom was predeceased by our Dad (Harvey); brothers Bill and Tom; sister-in-law Jean; and nephew Cameron. She was born in Wapella, Saskatchewan and grew up loving farm life; especially the animals. She preferred chores outdoors, where she connected with her Dad, rather than being indoors attending to domestic duties. After graduation Mom held positions at the Post Office and jewellery store before settling into a long career with the Royal Bank. In Moosomin she met and married Harvey (Dad) and they began their life together, moving to Ile Des Chenes, Portage la Prairie and, eventually, Kenora, Ontario. While raising a young family, Mom enjoyed leisure activities like camping and fishing, snowmobiling, tobogganing, curling and cross-country skiing. Mom particularly enjoyed gardening; tending to flowers, vegetables and fruits which she preserved for her family to enjoy over the long winter and sewing, knitting and crocheting. Mom and Dad built a cottage on Lake of the Woods and she delighted in welcoming friends and family with her warm hospitality. A good game of cards, Yahtzee or Scrabble were favourite pastimes. Following retirement Mom and Dad relocated to Winnipeg where they could easily connect with family and friends. In these years Mom became a Grandma to six beautiful granddaughters who became her pride and joy. She developed and maintained a special connection with each of them over the years. While enjoying retirement Mom and Dad travelled extensively with friends and family. These trips provided many fond memories for Mom. Mom thoroughly enjoyed her home at Riverwood Square where she was actively involved. The musical entertainment was definitely the highlight of her week. She was grateful for the many opportunities to sing and enjoy the piano playing; particularly Sunday afternoon Hymn sing. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, with Rev. Kang officiating. The family wishes to express appreciation to all the staff at Riverwood Square and the doctors and nursing staff at Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Dawn, Ward and Families, our sincere condolences in the passing of your mom. Thankfully we were able to see her last summer in such wonderful spirits and will treasure that memory even though it was a short time with her. One of my fondest memories of your mom was as a young boy when she and your dad took me for a float in Moosomin at the favorite Ice cream and soda store on Main Street. I'll always remember Harvey was so fun to be with also and he made a big impression on me as a kid. Our thoughts of her will always be special and know you all have a legacy of Blessings just because of who she was. - Posted by: Don and Cathy Glazebrook (Cousin) on: Mar 11, 2018

  • Dawn, Ward and families, Our condolences to your family. I am so glad your mom and I had such a good visit over the phone at Xmas. We were reminiscing about how I loved being at your Grandpa and Grandma Laing's when your mom and dad were there. It was the best! They were so nice to her "little cousin" ! Both so special in our lives over the years. Our loving thoughts are with all of you at this sad time, Love Linda, John and Uncle Glen McDonald. - Posted by: Linda McDonald (Cousin) on: Feb 25, 2018

  • We are so sad to hear the news of Peggy’s passing and send our love. She was always so kind to us. We could count on Peggy’s smiling face and questions showing interest in our lives, when we saw her in the dining room at Riverwood Square. She often saved gifts and treats to give to our young daughter which brought joy to all of us. She spoke so lovingly of all of her family as well. She was a special lady and will be missed. - Posted by: Paula Markesteyn (Grace’s Daughter) on: Feb 25, 2018

  • To Peggy's dear family who she loved so completely: We are so saddened at her passing. She has been such an institution in the Riverwood family and always such a kind and loving friend. Peggy always made a point of making sure everyone was safe and healthy and was quick to offer assistance to anyone who needed it and often had special treats or gifts for my niece during each holiday. My music partner and I always loved when she arrived for our concerts, feeling the appreciation and joy she got in listening and sharing in the music. Her presence along with her joyful singing voice will be missed at Sunday hymn sing and any concerts to come. I always knew when I arrived for my Wednesday visits with my Mom, that I could count on her caring smile and her question of "How're the roads?!" I am so glad that Mom and I had a chance to get to see her at Riverview, of course not knowing it would be our last visit. She will be so missed. Thinking of you all during this sad time.
