GRACE MARION ROBERTS 1919 - 2018 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mum passed away on February 25, 2018. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Marilyn (Vernon), two grandchildren, Brian (Charlene) of Winnipeg; Stacey (David) of Kelowna, BC; great-granddaughter Emily and great-grandsons, Logan of Winnipeg and Crosby of Kelowna, BC; stepdaughter Patricia MacDonald of Victoria, BC and stepgrandchildren, Lindsay of Victoria, BC, Rob (Maureen) of Kamloops, BC and Chris ( Dennis) of Port Angeles, USA, as well as great-grandchildren in Victoria, Calgary and Port Angeles. Mum was predeceased by her first husband, Robert James Stewart in 1947. He had served with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry. Her second husband, Francis Albert Roberts died in 1962. He worked for the City of Winnipeg License Department. Her stepsons, Victor Roberts in 1994 and Barry Roberts in 2003. Mum attended St. Martin-in-the-Fields Anglican Church all of her life until it closed in 2014. She loved her church very much; the Rectors, prayers, hymns, and the wonderful fellowship with her friends. She served as Vestry Clerk, sang in the choir for many years and was president of the Ladies Aide Group. Mum was a past president of the General Sir Sam Steele Legion Ladies Auxiliary No. 117, and volunteered for many years at Deer Lodge Hospital. She had been presented with a certificate of Merit, a Life Membership, and a 75-year bar for her years of active service with the auxiliary. On Remembrance Day, she was always asked to read Why Wear a Poppy. She was a longtime member of the Good Neighbours Active Living Centre. She spent many happy hours there with her friends, doing activities, dances, line dancing, pattern dancing, card games, teas, dinners and bus trips. She enjoyed being a volunteer and was on the phoning committee to keep in touch with members on their birthdays. Mum bowled for years. She was an active member of the Oakland Gardens Senior Social Club where she lived for 36 years. She led a choir there and the Christmas Carol sing song for many years. Mum loved her music very much. Mum had spent many happy years travelling to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Florida, California, Arizona, Branson, San Fransisco, and many times to British Columbia. Mum retired from City Hall in 1984 after working in the Purchasing Dept. (Stationery) Division for 24 years. Mum loved trying different things; she was an extra in the crowd for a movie that was shot in Winnipeg; when she was 80 she rode a horse for the first time, and the most exciting thing she ever did was going up in the CTV Hot Air Balloon to celebrate her 85th birthday. Her warmth and generosity to many organizations will always live on in our hearts. Mum always had a smile and her glass was always half full. Mum lived a full and interesting life and is now at rest. Thanks to the nurses and staff at Health Sciences Centre Emergency and GD2 for their kindness and compassion. Thanks also to Elizabeth Pontanos and the 5th floor staff at Riverside Lions. They took such good care of Mum for the last three years. A special thank you to Kristen Legrange, case coordinator, of WRHA River East for being my lifeline in the beginning of our journey with Alzheimer's. Not all angels are in heaven they walk among us every day. In accordance with Mum's wishes, cremation has taken place. A family Celebration of Life service will be held in the spring. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
