TONY (ANTHONY) MASLANKA Tony (Anthony) Maslanka died peacefully at the Maples Care Centre, in Winnipeg, MB, on February 28, 2018, at the age of 94. He is predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Ann Maslanka; sisters, Mary (who died as a baby), Jessie (Peter) Karas and Myrtle (Edward) Stuart. He leaves to mourn his sisters, Stephie (Adam) Wachal, Elsie (Walter) Unick; brothers, John and Merlin, as well as many nieces and nephews. Tony was born on September 18, 1923 and was raised on a farm in North Springfield, MB, about 8.5 miles N.W. of Oakbank. He attended the North Springfield School where he finished his Grade 7 and then worked on the family farm doing mixed farming with his parents. He spent about 15 years living and working in Toronto, and the rest of his life in the St. James area of Winnipeg. Among some of the fun things that Tony enjoyed as a youngster was his horseshoe competitions with the local boys in the community, playing baseball against other schools, and in his mid-years golfing. In his later years, he enjoyed playing cards, solitaire and rummy, and most of all his precious cats, Tiger, Frisky, Mitzi, Smokey and Merlin's dogs, Blackie and Max, as well the many birds and squirrels who came daily at his two feeders. An important part of Tony's life revolved around his worship to his God Jehovah. He dedicated his life to Jehovah and symbolized his dedication by water baptism in February of 1942, at 19 years of age. Tony will be well remembered as a strong advocate of God's Kingdom, as he believed it is the complete solution to all of mankind's problems, and also for his generous and kindly spirit, always ready to help those in need. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 325 Wallasey St., in Winnipeg, MB on Saturday, Mach 10, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place, with a private interment at a later date.
