MAMIE DUNLOP January 4, 1925 - March 3, 2018 It is with great sadness, and joy, that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother after a courageous battle with life. Born January 4, 1925 in Gold Rock, Ontario to Maggie and Jonas Wetelainen, Mom would certainly lead an interesting life. From handling a team of horses hauling logs out of the bush for the Dryden paper mill, joining the Army in the Second World War and graduating basic training to running the restaurant at the local curling club. But I do believe her greatest joy was in caring for literally hundreds of foster children. These were children too sick to be home, but not sick enough to be in hospital. She would care and nurture these children as if they were her own. We do recall many parting tears when the children were well enough to go home. At last estimate there were over 1000 children that passed through her arms. Mom is survived by her six children, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren too numerous to count. As per Mamie's wishes, she will be interred beside her beloved husband Walter in a private ceremony. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I will always remember Mrs. Dunlop's extraordinary kindness and generosity. She was always welcoming and had kind words towards everyone, and cared so very deeply and unconditionally for her family. She was cherished as an extraordinary human being and friend by everyone who knew her. My deepest sympathies to the entire family. This is a huge loss, which leaves an unfillable void. But, oh my... what wonderful memories we have to cherish of her time with us. Much Love! - Posted by: Aline Boxall Brétécher (Family friend) on: Dec 22, 2018

  • Deepest sympathy to my cousins and their families. I have only very good memories of Aunt Mamie over the years. A life well lived. - Posted by: Patrick Dunlop (Nephew at the Rosewood farm) on: Mar 07, 2018
