Born: Nov 20, 1954
Date of Passing: Mar 10, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL CHRISTIAN HERVE JOSEPH GUYADER November 20, 1954 - March 10, 2018 It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Paul on March 10, 2018. Paul was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather (Pappy). He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Leslie, daughters Christine (Chris) and Jane (Yvan), brother Richard (Tracy), sister Yvonne (Lorrie), and grandchildren Ryder, Olivier and Danika. He was predeceased by his father Michael, mother Barbara, brother Michael, and nephew Dana. Paul will also be greatly missed by his extended family Bob and Elaine Ferguson (father and mother-in-law), Liz (Tim), Robbie (Martin), Sharon (Justin), and his nieces and nephews Lindsay (Scott), Garrett (Jess), Karl (Danalee) and Jaclyn, as well as many friends he considered family. Paul had a distinguished career as a firefighter with the City of Winnipeg Fire Department from 1977 to 2008. He ended his career as a Platoon Chief. From there he went on to be the Director of Operations of the Emergency Measures Organization with the Manitoba Government, before returning to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service as Deputy Chief. He spent many years in the community of St. Francois Xavier, where he loved to volunteer his time whether it was at the community club or helping organize a community event. He also served a term as a councillor for the municipality. Paul lived life to the fullest and never missed an opportunity to spend time molding the minds of his grandkids. Throughout the seasons you could see Pappy and the crew everywhere tearing up the streets by bike, training for the W.F.P.S. 5 Km, shoveling snow and building igloos. He was the first one down the toboggan hill with as many kids as possible on his belly. He was also on the snowmobile trail more than the groomer. He helped so many people and touched so many hearts. He would talk to anyone who approached him. He was loved and respected in the communities he served and will be missed by all who knew him. He truly was a legend. Rest easy Pappy, your memory will live on forever. A celebration of Paul's life will be held Friday, March 16, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at the Assiniboia Downs, 3975 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CK5 of the Children's Hospital or to Canadian Blood Services as they were two places dear to his heart. We would like to thank the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service for their support. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Dear Les, Christine, Jane, Richard, Yvonne and families Paul was a true gem. We were all so shocked and saddened by his passing. The celebration of his life was a wonderful tribute to Paul. Paul was quite the prankster...I remember in the early 1980s Paul broke into our home on Goulding. Tom and I had gone out and when we returned home there was Paul sitting at our kitchen table waiting for our return with his infectious grin. He never did explain how he got in. When we built our new house a couple years later we made sure to install an alarm system so that Paul would enter through the front door like the rest of our guests. His stories got even better with time, you could hear the same story and it seemed to get funnier each time. Paul, we are so happy that you were a part of our lives and we will cherish the wonderful times we had with you. We were so proud to be on your train. Rest easy friend .... love to your family ... I've known Paul and his family since we grew up as neighbours on Beaverbend Crescent. We were once again neighbours when we bought our first houses within a couple of blocks of each other. For years, and with a great group of friends, we had a ball with everything from chasing ducks and geese around Selkirk and the interlake to some fantastic fishing trips to Black Lake in Nopiming Park and East Blue Lake in Duck Mountains. We made our best efforts at home improvements, fences, decks, landscaping projects and making potato champagne! Of course, circumstances dictated that we would see less of each other as time went by, but whenever I had occasion to meet Paul, he had a personality that made it seem as if no time had passed at all. He never seemed to change, and his "unique" sense of humor certainly never changed. If I've ever known anyone who would drop everything to help someone, it was Paul. My most sincere condolences to Leslie and all the family. - Posted by: Jeff Durnin (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2018

Paul was a great guy and a good firefighter. We worked together in Station 2 and I always considered him a friend. He went on to be a good officer and was always the same guy he was in the station. Sad to see him go so soon. I never met his family but I offer my condolences to them. The world was a better place with Paul in it and is diminished by his passing. Thanks for some good memories, brother. - Posted by: Scott Miner (Colleague) on: Mar 15, 2018

I met Paul last year when I started my position as Municipal Emergency Coordinator for the RM of St. Laurent. We drove to check out all the beach fronts in the community and he shared some of his expertise with me as we discussed the flood of 2011. Since then I have had the pleasure of talking with Paul on a few occasions and found him to have a wealth of knowledge, to be an eloquent speaker and have a very kind disposition. It was only a few short weeks ago we shared a table at the annual EMO conference in Gimli. We had some laughs, he led the team during our exercise and he again helped me with some of his great ideas. I was shocked to hear of his recent passing. On behalf of everyone at the RM of St. Laurent I want to wish his family and friends and the entire EMO community our sincere sympathies. - Posted by: Paul Belair (Business acquaintance) on: Mar 14, 2018

Leslie, Donna & I are truly saddened and our condolences go out to you and your family, Paul was extraordinary as you well know. As firefighters Paul and I knew of each other, but became very close when we were appointed Platoon Chiefs in 2001. As the youngest Chiefs in the department, we both were facing challenges that our early careers prepared us for. Paul and I consorted many times to achieve the best for our platoons, and with his mischievous and sometimes devious character lead to some interesting moments in time. On our return from a course in Ottawa, Paul wanted to bet which of our wives would arrive at the airport first, I said without a doubt Leslie, I wouldn't take the bet. Standing in front of the terminal we hear sirens and Paul says looks like they are welcoming us home, I said "It's probably Donna". Just then Airport security pulls up with Donna who had driven on the runway instead of to the front of the terminal. Yes Leslie arrived first. Paul and I developed a close relationship over the years which continued on after he retired and started with EMO, together we worked the Flood of 2011 and did some great things. I truly miss you my friend, God Bless You! - Posted by: Stephen Sumka (Friend Firefighter) on: Mar 14, 2018

Leslie, Richard, Yvonne and family. Words can not express the devastation you must all be feeling. May you find comfort in all the great memories and laughs you have had and knowing Paul, there must have been a lot of them. He was a unique person that our Dad really got a kick out of. I will always remember the rivalry we had over the Riders and Bombers and as well listening to Paul and Richard teasing Auntie Barbara (lovingly of course). He was a great man. May he rest in peace. Love to you all. - Posted by: Kelley & Don Izso (Cousin) on: Mar 14, 2018
