OLGA LOLA FOUGERE (DYCHAKOWSKY)
Date of Passing: Mar 11, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA LOLA FOUGERE (nee DYCHAKOWSKY) We mourn the loss of our dear mom, grandmom and great-grandmother, who passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at the age of 93 years. She is survived by her children, Gail (Bill), Greg, Garnet (Ken), Marie and Susan (Warren), 12 adoring grandchildren and spouses, and great-grandchildren. Olga was born in Rossburn, MB. Life was not easy on the family farm, picking rocks and carrying pounds of potatoes, milking cows and leading a very strict life. Olga rebelled by escaping to wartime Halifax to join the Navy. Here, she met her husband Damian, eventually moving back to Winnipeg with him, for most of 59 years. She was an amazing hockey and figure skating coach, taught us all how to skate and swim; and had wonderful foresight regarding health, nutrition and fitness. She led by example. Olga played bridge, maintained exemplary health and independence and kept up with local news and family events. She always said yes to caring for the young ones and fed us her sublime cooking. Our family would like to thank the excellent Family Medicine Team 6A North at St. Boniface Hospital for making our family's last few days with Olga special and peaceful. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 16, at St. Timothy's Parish, 135 John Forsyth Rd. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. No flowers please. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Desjardins 204-233-4949 1-888-233-4949 www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca

Hello: My name is Dave Freeman. I am a volunteer with the Naval and Military Museum in Victoria, B.C. The obituary of Olga Fougere recently appeared in the Winnipeg Free Press and there I noted her naval service as a member of the WRCNS. My condolences on your loss, and my thanks for her service. Our museum is collecting information on women who joined the Navy between 1910 and 1946. Our plan is to produce a two volume book on their service. To do this we need information from families and friends. The museum wants to recognize the service of these women and their valuable contribution to Canadian history. These brave, talented and skilled women who joined the navy consisted of nursing sisters, doctors, physiotherapist and almost 7,000 members of the WRCNS. We have Olga Fougere in our current records. I am writing to ask for your assistance in obtaining a scan of her portrait in Wren uniform. You may reach me via email or my phone number or at the mailing address above. As the principal writer, I would be pleased to hear from you. Yours sincerely David J. Freeman LCdr RCN Ret’d. - Posted by: Dave Freeman (historian ) on: Mar 15, 2018

To the family, So sorry to hear about Aunt Olga's passing. She was a lovely lady and we always enjoyed their visits from the west. When I was travelling west, we stayed with your parents are were treated like gold - your parents were a wonderful couple. I have taken over our old homestead so if anyone is ever in the area, please let me know and you are most welcome to stay. Treasure the memories! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
