CLARENCE JAMES CARNEY 1930 - 2018 Our dad "Clancy" died peacefully on January 10, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born in Boissevain, Manitoba; the son of James and Isabel Carney, and brother to Doug (Mae Belle), Ken (Judy) and Pat (Cliff), and uncle to several nieces and nephews. Dad was a devoted husband to our mom Joan for 53 years, and a great father to us: Jim (Cindy), Thomas, Jeff (Carolyn) and Paige. We have fond memories of time spent in Red Deer, Edmonton, Regina, and Winnipeg. Dad and Mom retired to Mom's birthplace Harvey Station, New Brunswick where they built a home overlooking Harvey Lake. In the late 1990s they moved to Toronto to be closer to Jeff's family. Dad worked most of his career at Texaco through which we were awarded scholarships to Queen's and Manitoba universities. Dad had a strong work ethic, which he passed on to us. He was also one of the boys, going on many travels and adventures that included Paris and Colorado where he got to know our friends well. For the past several summers Dad enjoyed family visits to Martha's Vineyard. We are grateful for the November 2017 Toronto-Boston road trip that he went on with Jim for US Thanksgiving with Jeff's family and a Patriots game. Dad was an amazing grandfather to Anna, John, Rory, Christopher (Amber), Chad and a great-grandfather to Bailey and Thomas. His name carries on in John and baby Thomas who both have Clarence as their middle name. Rory's middle name is James, just like his Grandpa's. We know all the Carney kids will make Dad very proud. We loved Dad for his great patience and understanding, for encouraging us to be whom we are, for helping us feel good about ourselves, and for supporting us when we needed him most. Our hearts are broken, we are going to miss Dad dearly, but are blessed to have so many great memories of him to keep us going. We are also comforted knowing that he is now with Mom and Tom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or a charity of your choice. A celebration of Dad's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 29 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
