JAMES (JIM) HARDING SKINNER
Born: Sep 04, 1937
Date of Passing: Mar 21, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES (JIM) HARDING SKINNER September 4, 1937 March 21, 2018 It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather at The Arborg and District Hospital with his beloved wife and family by his side. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Donna, of 52 years; children Heather (Ron) Einarson of Arborg, MB and Keith (Sarah) Skinner of Upper Hutt, NZ; along with his six grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. He leaves to mourn his siblings - Shirley Middleton, Jack (Heather) Skinner, Heather (Roger) Reay and Ruth Skinner. Jim was predeceased by his father James K. Skinner and mother Frances E. Skinner. Jim served in the Royal Canadian Navy for ten years as a stoker where he later met the love of his life, Donna. Jim and Donna were married in 1966 which was then followed by the birth of their two children. Jim worked at the Selkirk Steam Plant for several years as an operator. Shortly after, they began their journey into Northern Manitoba. They travelled to Jenpeg, Laurie River, Gillam and Grand Rapids while Jim worked as a Stationary Engineer for Manitoba Hydro. Prior to his retirement from Manitoba Hydro he enjoyed travelling to Texas in the winters and riding his motorcycle with his wife to Sturgis in the summers. After retirement he took on part time jobs at Petro Canada and the Evergreen School Division. Jim was one of the founders of Arborg's Chilli Fest which was a local charitable fundraiser. He treasured the time that he spent with his grandchildren and loved having them around the house, taking them out for lunch or on road trips around Manitoba and Ontario. He enjoyed his coffee times with "The Senate" at Zan's and Chicken Chef. Jim was also well known for the many stories that he told. He thoroughly enjoyed volunteering for the Arborg Ice Dawgs, which consumed a large majority of his time. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Arborg, Gimli and St. Boniface Hospitals, along with STARS and the Interlake Paramedics for the outstanding care that was provided in the last couple of months. At Jim's request there will be no funeral service or viewing. A celebration of his life will be planned for a later date, as per his wishes. In lieu of flowers you may make your donation in his memory to The Manitoba Heart Foundation or The Arborg and District Hospital. "So, when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart. For every time you think of me, I'm right here in your heart." - David Romano MacKenzie Funeral Home Arborg 204-376-2362 info@mackenziefh.com

It's 6 years later and I just stumbled across this. I worked for a short time in Laurie River around 1972 where I met Jim. He was personable and funny and you couldn't help but take a liking to him. After a few beer one night he was showing me some fighting moves and I accidentally head-butted him in the nose. I have always been grateful that he let me live. I also remember that he taught me the basics of water-skiing with the Hydro boat. He was a good man. - Posted by: Sandy Kerns (Co-worker) on: Oct 08, 2024
