KATHLEEN ELLEN PARRY (MANNIX) 1936 - 2018 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mum, Kathy Parry, on Monday, April 2, 2018, at the age of 81 years. Predeceased by her beloved husband John; siblings Frank (Rita), Blanche (Fred), George (Ruth), Nony (Burt) and Bette (Rob). She will be loving remembered by daughters Jo-Ellen and Genine, the Parry family; Mary (Clive), Margaret (Dave), Tom (Anne), Gladys (Glen), Grace (Larry), David (Patricia); her nieces and nephews of the Mannix and Parry families; extended family and longtime friends. Born in Victoria, she grew up as part of a large close-knit circle of family and friends. When not working and supporting her parents, she was dancing, singing, skating, boating and enjoying picnics at the beach. There she met John and, in 1969, turned a visit with him in Santiago, Chile into a marriage of 29 years. With John and her girls, her adventurous spirit led her to live in and travel to many beautiful and interesting places in Ghana, Nigeria, East Africa and Pakistan, to walk the Cotswold Way, spend summer holidays hiking in Kananaskis and Switzerland, and explore much of Canada. She will be remembered by every stranger who stopped to admire her garden, and gave her a hug before they left, no longer a stranger. She was always interested in people and their stories, kept in contact with friends on five continents, and maintained close friendships in Winnipeg and Victoria while raising her girls, working and volunteering with many groups. She was a wonderful mum, always there to listen, always supportive. She loved her adopted home city of Winnipeg, was a 30+ year season ticket holder of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and was looking forward to her 20th year cheering on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. She will be forever missed and remembered. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with a reception to follow. Donations in Kathy's memory may be made to The Leprosy Relief Canada. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Dear Genine and Jo-Ellen, I am so very sorry about the loss of your dear Mom. She has always held a special spot in my heart since spending time in Ghana with her. Although we did not see a lot of each other, I thought of her often, such a kind and beautiful soul. As I have been on the Island since the fall, we were not in touch but my intent was to see her this summer when I returned to Winnipeg in June. It is only today that I learned of her passing. I am not sure how I can reach you, please call or email me if there is anything I can do or ever share a cup of tea. Hugs Kathy - Posted by: Kathy Hookham (Friend) on: May 04, 2018

Kathy was a dear friend and faithful volunteer with Osu Children's Library Fund for many, many years. She arrived with a smile every Tuesday morning, and no task was ever too large or too small. Our donors appreciated her carefully crafted hand-written letters, and she packed hundreds of boxes of books for Ghana and all with precision. She lovingly put together flower arrangements at each of our annual dinners. Even as her health was failing she still expressed her willingness to help. Kath, we will miss you very, very much. Thank you for everything. - Posted by: Kathy Knowles (Friend) on: Apr 06, 2018

Jo-Ellen and Janine, how terribly sad. Your Mom was indeed a giving, loving person and I have treasured her friendship ever since we met in Ghana. I hope you will both have the courage she has left with you so that your own lives continue to reflect those values and love. Susan - Posted by: Susan Roe-Finlay (friend) on: Apr 05, 2018

We were saddened to hear of Kathy's passing. She was such a remarkable woman that we first met in Ghana, West Africa many years ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with the girls who we know both parents were so proud of. We are grateful that we had the opportunity to know your Mum and your Dad. - Posted by: Loretta and Wilf Nerrie and Family (Friends from Africa) on: Apr 05, 2018

My sympathy on the passing of your Mom. I met Kathy briefly in Chile in 1960s and later in Ottawa at a mutual friend's home, and shared a train ride with her from Ottawa to Toronto in 2012. I remember her as a very outgoing person, and it was a delight to know her. - Posted by: Olive Keith (friend) on: Apr 05, 2018

Very sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She was such a kind and gentle person. I have many fond memories of Kathy, from our first meeting in South America in the early ‘70s, through the early years in Winnipeg when I babysat you girls. Later, after we left Winnipeg, she would look out for our mother Joan, frequently acting in our stead - she was a godsend on many occasions! Big hugs to you both. - Posted by: Pam Harrison (Friend) on: Apr 03, 2018

Jo-Ellen and Genine, Please accept our families condolences. We are so very sorry for your loss. In better times, Barb regularly spoke of your mother and eagerly awaited her cards and notes, she was Barb's bridesmaid at our wedding in May 1957.
