ROSE POCHINKO (nee PHILLIP) On March 29, 2018 at 92 years of age, Rose embarked on her final journey to be reunited with her husband Steve after 40 years. Along with her husband Steve, she was predeceased by her brother Michael; sisters, Mary, Anne, Pauline, Helen, Polly and Sophie. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Don (Lea) and Diana (Gerry). Rose was Baba to five grandchildren, Rachelle, Jo-Ann, Dustin (David), Ken, Gynn; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand-daughter. Born on the family farm in Poplar Park, MB on November 12, 1925, the youngest of eight children to Anastasia and John Phillip. Being the youngest wasn't without responsibility, as she milked the cows every morning before leaving for school. As a young woman she would frequent community dances with her sisters till she met and married her one true love, Steve on July 20, 1946 where they enjoyed a short 32 years of Love and Laughter together. Rose was a talented seamstress and took great pride in designing and sewing many wedding gowns where she hand stitched each bead with precision. Known for her garden she would spend hours planting, weeding and hoeing. There was always enough vegetables for the family all year, as she froze and canned the fruits of her labor. Of course there was always extra to share with others. If Rose wasn't sewing or playing in the mud, you could find her in the kitchen making cabbage rolls, perogies, chicken soup, chocolate chip cookies and banana muffins. Saturday was always her day off where she would spend the day shopping downtown. Rose played an integral part in raising her grandchildren and always made each one feel like they were the favourite. Rose enjoyed many travel opportunities, trips with her daughter, visiting family and various cruises. She enjoyed her trips to the casinos with her sisters and nieces and was always up for a last minute trip to Grand Forks or South Beach Casino. A real proper lady she always dressed her best, but still enjoyed the simple things in life and finding a great bargain was one of her greatest joys. Now the last perogy has been pinched, the last seam has been sewn, and the last crossword has been solved. Though a void will be felt by those left behind her memory will live on through our love for her. A special thank you to Baba's home care team for allowing her to remain in her own home as long as possible. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul, MB with interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Winnipeg Humane Society, Winnipeg Animal Services or a charity of your choice.
