MARIE THERESA HOFER Peacefully, on March 28, 2018, Marie Theresa Hofer, 74, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. She is survived by her husband Andy Hofer; daughter Andrea Giesbrecht (Albert); son Ted (Shirley); son Derek; daughter by birth Laurie Nagy of Tisdale SK; grandchildren, Marisa, Bethany, Reagan, Aidan and Laurie's children, Mandy, Eric and Brendan; sisters, Magdalene Nazarenko, Linda Gesy, Janet Tildsley of Saskatoon, SK and Eileen Gerein of Regina, SK. She was predeceased by her father Michael Bihler; mother Wilhelmina Bihler; granddaughter Nyah Hofer; sisters, Loretta Cooper and Wilma Bihler; and an infant brother. Mom was born on December 31, 1943 in Saskatoon, SK and was the middle child of seven sisters. Her father had emigrated from Hamburg, Germany before the Second World War and her mother came from a German settlement in Russia as a very young child. She attended Our Lady of Sion Academy in Saskatoon. She experienced profound heartbreak early in life, as she had three children, two sons and a daughter (Laurie), that she gave up for adoption. It was after this that she met and married our dad, Andy Hofer, on June 25, 1966. Early in their marriage they relocated to the Winnipeg area where Dad is originally from. The family moved back to Saskatoon from 1982 to 1986 before returning to Winnipeg. A memorial service to honour Marie will be held Sunday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Abundant Life Lutheran Church, 3486 Raleigh St., East St. Paul, MB. If anyone so wishes, donations can be made in Marie's memory to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

I met Marie in 9-1992 and we became pen pals starting 4-1993. By early 2011 she was no longer able to write or converse. She suffered terribly and I'm glad it's finally over. - Posted by: Mark Thornton (Friend) on: Jan 25, 2019
