Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Growing up across the street from the Fabro’s was a very special part of my life. I have wonderful memories of Janet, Jim, Marie and of course Sam. Sam the larger than life Dad arrived in his Cadillac and emerged smoking his cigar. My parents called Sam, the Carpet King, which was evident with a never ending installation of new broadloom. I have two vivid memories of Sam. One was a Sunday, having Marie’s cookies and tea in the Fabro kitchen, and hearing Janet and Jim’s wonderful laughter as Sam, in a plaid shirt, slippers and sweatpants played with his beloved children. The other was Sam coming over to help me after I fell off my bike. He held my hand and consoled me as I limped home. Both were very sweet moments. Sam Fabro was a wonderful father, an outstanding citizen and a kind friend. - Posted by: Helen Strock (Neighbor ) on: Apr 24, 2018

  • I met Sam while a member of the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg. He always had a smile and a good story to tell. He will be missed - Posted by: Janice Janzen (Acquaintance) on: Apr 20, 2018

  • I met Sam when I worked at the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation. He would often drop by the office to visit and was always involved in our events and activities. He was one of the moving forces behind the start of the Foundation, and stayed involved. It was always a delight to have Sam pop in and I was always amazed at his zest for life and continued energy for so many community groups. He will be missed. - Posted by: Glynis Corkal (Misericordia Health Centre Foundation (colleague)) on: Apr 16, 2018

  • Sam was a delight. He was so devoted to his beautiful wife and such a gentleman. We are honoured to have known him. - Posted by: Audry & Hugh Letain (Former neighbours at the lake) on: Apr 14, 2018

  • I first met Mr. Fabro in the early 70’s, just as I was getting a start working for Bill Knight in the flooring business. His modesty, generosity and kindness...and encouragement, meant a great deal to me during those formative years. Sam epitomized what it is to be a gentleman and a person of character. I never forgot him despite the many intervening years. - Posted by: Jeff Braid (Business friend) on: Apr 14, 2018
