LOUIS JOHN SAUNDERS 1923 - 2018 We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father Lou Saunders on April 13, 2018. Lou was predeceased by Isabelle, his loving wife of 71 years. Lou is survived by his five children Linda (John), Judy (Marc), David (Phyllis), Neil (Debbie) and Chris, his eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Dad joined the Armed Forces at age 18 for a four year stint until the end of the war. Thereafter he worked for 10 years with Sherbrook Motors and Russell Motors where he learned his trade. In 1958 Dad, along with two partners, established Pembina Auto Body, which is still a thriving business today. Dad is also a founding member of the Automotive Trades Association in Winnipeg. In 1993 Mom and Dad pulled up roots in Winnipeg and retired to warmer climates in Duncan, BC. After Mom passed in 2016, Dad moved back to his roots to be with his family in Winnipeg. He was a 29 year member of Rotary International, serving in both the Fort Garry Rotary Club and the Duncan Rotary Club. He served as president of the Fort Garry Club in 1980-1981. Mom and Dad were long time members of both the Fort Garry United Church and the Duncan United Church. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Ted St. Goddard and all the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their care and support. A celebration of Dad's life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on April 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre or CancerCare Manitoba. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Deepest sympathy to the family. I will always remember his kindness. A short story Lou hired me in my teens and gave me a chance to become an auto body mechanic. After a few months he gave me some serious advice. Take the job with the phone company as I was not a body man. Always appreciated the advice and we had a good laugh about it whenever we met. A great gentleman - Posted by: Ed Gray (Former emploee and family member from years ago) on: Apr 25, 2018
