THERESE CHAPUT It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thérèse Chaput of Richer, MB on April 15, 2018. She had turned 100 years old one week before. She was predeceased by her husband, Antoine, in 1975, and by her eldest son, Emile, in 1969. She leaves to mourn eight children and their spouses: Faye, Gilbert and Della, Denis and Sharon, Albert and Lina, Michel and Monique, Janine and Gilbert, Patrick and Ruby and Georges Saltel. She also leaves one sister, Yvonne Larose, two sisters-in-law, Thérèse Perron and Agnès Bichon, one brother-in-law, André Chaput, two daughters-in-law, Denise Yestrau and Claudette Nault, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, to ever cherish her memory are 19 grandchildren: Aaron and Sasha; Daniel; Mona, Marc and Luc; Guy and Rhéal; Joël and Nadine; Chantal, Lucile, Madeleine, Jean-Guy, Pierre and Patrick; Brittanie, Kirsten and Hillari. Memère also had 37 great-grandchildren and every one of them was precious and very special to her. She was born in 1918 in Caliento and was raised in Saint-Adolphe, a place that was always dear to her heart. She was the fourth child of a large family of nine brothers and sisters. They lived through the great depression and, like most of their neighbours, were very poor. She obtained her high school diploma and so was born her love of reading. She was born with an infirmity to her feet and ankles but even if that slowed her down a bit physically, it made her stronger mentally and spiritually. That trait of character, she passed on to her children and grandchildren. For the family, she was our pillar of strength. Daily, she prayed for each one of us. She was always interested in what we were doing and always appreciated our visits to the very end. She lived her faith in a fashion that was exemplary for all of us, her immediate family. We always felt her concern for each one of us. That was always greatly appreciated and very reassuring. Her love of God and neighbour was natural and a part of who she was. She was a very caring person. In her younger years, she was always involved in the Richer Parish fundraising activities. In her later years, she lived at the Villa Youville in Sainte-Anne and her compassionate, calm and caring demeanor was very much appreciated by everyone, residents and staff alike. In her own home, for many years she took care of her mother and mother-in-law, Anna and Anna. She was welcoming and generous. Regularly, almost weekly, she and Antoine welcomed brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours to their home and table. Her Sunday dinner of roast chicken and home-made bread is legendary. Very often, one of her children's friends came to visit and after having a bowl of soup and a slice of home-made bread, would leave with another slice of bread for the road. Young or old, everybody would feel comfortable with her because she knew how to listen and made everyone feel important and special. She was truly one of a kind! The family wishes to thank the staff at the Villa Youville for making those last years happy for her and memorable for us. Especially, we would like to extend our most sincere expression of gratitude to Sisters Irène Rioux and Céline Vermette for your compassion, care and faithful presence throughout those last years. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 21, at 10:00 a.m., with viewing at 9:30 a.m. at the Roman Catholic Church in Sainte-Anne, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Thérèse may be made to Villa Youville Inc., 15 Chemin Charrière, Ste-Anne, MB R5H 1C9. Desjardins 204-233-4949 1-888-233-4949 www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca

Sorry to find this so late. I remember my times at the farm fondly and the hospitality showed by the whole family, and especially Therese who gave me that special double-yolked egg every day. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Paul M MacLeod (Jerry Chaput's nephew) on: Jun 03, 2021

- Posted by: Raymond et Jocelyne Hupé (Amis) on: Apr 20, 2018

- Posted by: Paul Ruest (Ami - friend) on: Apr 20, 2018

I am so sorry for the loss of Aunt Therese, her wonderful smile and twinkling eyes still the same at 100! What a lovely picture. I have thought of her often in the years, she became more known to me when she lived with my grandmother, her sister Irene Proteau. We visited Michel and Monique and their farm when my grandmother passed away. My deepest condolences to all who loved her! - Posted by: Debbie Proteau Pownall (Great Niece) on: Apr 20, 2018
