Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNEL ROMANO (formerly PACHOLEK) (nee KOTAK) Nel Romano passed away at Grandview Hospital on April 9, 2018 at the age of 92. Nel was born March 3, 1926 in Grandview Municipality to Nick and Helena (nee Sanchuk) Kotak, the youngest of six children. In 1937, the family moved to the farm in Gilbert Plains Municipality. She attended Duck Mountain and Strathcona country schools. As an adult, Nel moved to Winnipeg where she worked 33 years as a bookkeeper for the MacLeod's store. On September 6, 1951 she married Walter Pacholek. Together they enjoyed camping and their cottage at Falcon Lake where she loved to feed foxes that came to their back door. Wally passed away in 1993. In 1996, Nel married Giovanni Romano and moved to Calgary where she remained until the fall of 2017 when she returned to her beloved Manitoba and the farm where she was raised. Nel was an active church member throughout her life and held a strong Catholic faith. Nel leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories: brother Walter Kotak; sisters-in-law Rose Kotak and Olive Kotak; many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Nel was predeceased by her parents Nick and Helena, first husband Wally and second husband Giovanni; brother Mike Kotak and wife Josephine; sister Mary and husband Berny Shewchuk; brothers Peter and Bill, and sister-in-law Lena Kotak. Prayers will be offered on Thursday, April 26, 7:00 p.m. and Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 27, 10:30 a.m. Both services will be at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 505 Watt Street, Winnipeg, MB with Rev. Dr. Michael Kwiatkowski officiating. Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery, Winnipeg, MB. Active pallbearers: Mervyn Kotak, Dwayne Kotak, Brian Kotak, Rick Kotak, Norm Ostermann and Rick Hunter. Honorary pallbearer: Ross Sanchuk. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nel may be made to the Grandview Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Box 339, Grandview, MB R0L 0Y0.
