JOHN VAN BERKEL May 1, 1954 - March 13, 2018 John Adrian van Berkel passed away suddenly on March 13, 2018 in Prawda, Manitoba. He was 63 and had lived in Prawda for over 30 years. John was an artisan, father, brother, friend and son. He was born and raised in Brandon, and left there on his once beloved motorcycle many times in his youth. He was strong, outspoken and stubbornly self-reliant, but also incredibly kind and genuine, with an unwavering sense of truth and justice. He fought hard against his demons and depression, and never gave up. He loved to work with wood and geometry, always creating in his own big, signature style. He is remembered and missed by his son, Sam and daughter-in-law, Alejandra, parents Adrian and Corrie, brothers Anthony (Merly), Daniel (Jo), Andrew (Fariba) and David, and sister Lis (Lisa), as well as other family and long-time friends. He was predeceased by his brother Richard. Donations in his memory can be made to the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.
