MAUREEN ZILINSKY With great sadness, the family of Maureen Zilinsky announce her sudden, but peaceful passing on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the age of 72. Maureen is survived by her children, Tim (Deanne), Jamie, Jason, Tamsyn Buus (Craig), and her grandchildren, Brianna, Cheyenne, Kaitlyn, Brooklyn and Ryker. Maureen is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Ed Zelinsky (Wanda), Larry Zelinsky (Sharon), and sisters-in-law, Sharon Kornago and Nancy, along with many nieces and nephews. Maureen had a special relationship with Auntie Frieda and cousin Arlene in British Columbia, and cousins Roy and Sharon Boyes in The Pas. Maureen will be greeted with open arms by the love of her life, Dave, who passed in 2016. Maureen will be reunited with her parents, Angela and William Houston, and brother, Terry. Maureen was born on February 2, 1946 in Winnipeg. Mom grew up on Bonner Avenue in North Kildonan where she developed a love for animals at an early age. Mom's love for horses started in her teenage years where she worked summers at the racetrack. Mom bought her first horse when she was 16 and her love for horses continued throughout her life. Maureen attended Springfield Collegiate in Oakbank where she met the love of her life, Dave in 1961 and they wed on July 9, 1966 in a summer that was so hot, it melted the wax on the dance floor at their reception! They purchased Maureen's parents property in the RM of Springfield where they built a house and raised their family of three sons and a daughter and numerous animals. For a number of years, Maureen and Dave would rent a cabin at Camp Morton where the entire family, along with the dogs and cats, would enjoy the outdoors. A loving stay at home mom, Maureen enjoyed raising her family, caring for all her animals, gardening, baking and sewing, and numerous family trips to the West Coast and Black Hills. Trips to California and Disneyland were also a favourite for the family. Maureen loved her family and her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Maureen loved 5 pin bowling where her and Dave bowled in the Rossmere Challengers for almost 20 years. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Health Sciences Centre and the doctors and staff at CancerCare for their compassion and care throughout Mom's health struggles. A big thank you to Holly and her staff at Seasons Funeral Chapel for all of their help and kindness. Cremation has already taken place and at Mom's request there will be no funeral service. A private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maureen's memory to either CancerCare Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society. www.seasonsfunerals.ca
