GERTRUDE ELLEN WILLMAN (nee SHEWAN) May 14, 1937 - April 22, 2018 With loving family by her side, Gertie's journey to peace ended on April 22, 2018 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Gertie will be lovingly remembered by her children Ron (Dianne) Davidson, Bill Davidson, Larry (Barb) Davidson, Arlene (Maurice) Jegues and Muriel (Danny) Benjamin, as well as her sister Isabel, Lori Davidson, and her 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by many dear friends that she met in Winnipeg and at the beach. Gertie will be reunited with her loving husband of 30 years, Jules Willman, her mother and father Verna and Harley Shewan, and her brothers Bob, Wally, Levi and Gordon. Gertie lived in St. Vital for many years and raised her family there. She spent many of those years working tirelessly at Eaton's Downtown. As a young girl Gertie spent time in Winnipeg Beach, and she was very happy in later years when Jules built them a cottage of their own at the beach where they could spend their summers and eventually settle. Gertie was passionate about her love for the casino, where she could be found at the penny machines, but her true love was bingo. The bingo hall was her social hub and she was a popular fixture there, not only as a player but as a caller as well. Everyone loved it when Gertie called bingo. Gertie was also an avid hockey fan and enjoyed her time at the rink watching a good hockey game. She was very happy to see the Jets make the playoffs this year. Gertie's love was shown through her knitting. She always had a pair of cozy slippers, dishcloths, or oven mitts for you, and we will all miss her special parcels. Mom was a kind-hearted woman who will be greatly missed, and our memories of her will be dearly cherished. Our love will be with her always. Our sincere and deepest thanks to Dr. Chan, the nurses and staff at Gimli Community Health Centre who cared for Mom with compassion and dignity. A celebration of Gertie's life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 20 Hamilton Ave., Winnipeg Beach, MB at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. Memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice. Condolences, photos and videos may be left on Gertie's tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
