Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryED TOMCHUK Ed Tomchuk passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Golden Links Lodge in Winnipeg. He is survived by children, Brian (Jo-Ann), Brent (Shirley) and Barb (Darren) Borton; grandchildren, Adam and Alexa; brothers, Walter (Agnes) and Wilbert, sister, Shirley Bannerman, sister-in-law, Joyce Tomchuk, brother-in-law, Al Miller, and many friends and extended family. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Leona, parents, Annie and Daniel, and brother, John. Ed was born on July 9, 1927. He spent his childhood years in the Rossendale area where he and his siblings worked hard on the family farm after the passing of their father at a young age. He spent most of his life farming at SW17-10-9 where he enjoyed working the land. He married Leona Miller, the young school teacher from Winnipeg in 1950 with whom he would raise their three children. Ed was an adventurer who was never afraid to try new things. He was a builder of highways and bridges, a pilot who loved buzzing his neighbours to the delight or terror of his passengers, and a talented mechanic who was able to repair most things on his farm. He especially enjoyed construction, as evidenced by the heavy equipment that was a central feature in every family photograph! Ed and Lee spent most of their married life on the farm in Rossendale. He was a dedicated husband and father who followed all of his children's interests and pursuits with enthusiasm. He also proudly followed Adam and Alexa's activities and happily spent many hours in horse barns and hockey rinks. He delighted in flying and regularly convinced Lee to hang out the window to take photos of the area. Ed also volunteered his time in the Rossendale community, from making ice for the rink, to levelling the ball diamonds; he was always ready to lend a hand. He drove the local school bus for many years and enjoyed having coffee with the other drivers, with whom he found good humour and fellowship. Ed was a proud and dedicated member of Oddfellows Lodge No. 3 of Portage la Prairie, rising to the prestigious role of Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba, Independent Order of Oddfellows in 1995. He and Lee valued the friendships and fellowship they found throughout their 65 years together. We know that they are together again; with Ed flying low and Lee along for a good ride. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the caring staff of Golden Links Lodge. In keeping with Ed's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ed's life will take place on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Rossendale Community Centre with interment to follow at the Rossendale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to Golden Links Lodge. seasonsfunerals.ca
