RITA ELEANOR CUMMINE (nee SHERMAN) Peacefully on April 29, 2018, at the age of 92, Rita passed away with her family by her side. Rita was predeceased by her loving husband of 69 years, Harry, and her brother, Isaiah Sherman of Napanee, ON. She will be sadly missed by her four children: Bev (Doug) Meakin, Cliff (Theresa), Pat (Bruce) Biglow, and James (Glenna); eight grandchildren: Stacey (Kevin) Findlay, Jay (Rayna) Meakin, Dwayne (Jenn), Ryan, Melanie (Travis Pachal), Alan Biglow (Holly Manchur), Brent Biglow (Joanna Vaccaro) and Amy; five great-grandchildren: Easton Findlay, Stella and Arlo Meakin, and Grace and Dylan Cummine, as well as her brother Rob (Helen), sister-in-law Ruth and many nieces and nephews. Rita was born near Napanee, ON on December 13, 1925 and grew up on a small farmstead overlooking Hay Bay. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, often welcoming friends and relatives into their home with a home cooked meal. Their home, under Rita's care, was the center of a growing family. She and Harry could always be counted on to look after a grandchild or provide a ride when needed. Rita took great interest in all of her grandchildren's activities, even when she was no longer able to go watch them. She was always ready for a friendly visit, including a game of cards, scrabble or Yahtzee. She was an active member of St. James Rebekah Lodge No. 47 most of her adult life. Rita will be remembered for her welcoming smile and warm interest in those around her. The family is thankful for the care she received at West Park Manor, especially Clare and all the staff of 1 East. A celebration of Rita's life will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Sending my condolences to the family especially daughter Pat. Without your mother's input I wouldn't have ended living where I have done for almost the last 10 years (May 30th). Harry and Rita were neighbors for almost 10 years before that at 4025 Roblin Blvd. and when the need to move to something more suited to all our needs, Rita gave me the information on the day she and Harry decided to move into here and it wasn't long until we also moved in. I'll never forget the fun it was to play cribbage with the 2 of them. I'm sorry I didn't get visit Rita the last few years, because of the way things have been for me. This tribute may not all get to you, but I wanted you to know how much your mother meant to me. - Posted by: Elizabeth (Betty) Borup (Sister Rebekah and Friend) on: May 02, 2018

  • My sympathy to James, Glenna and all your families. Rest in peace Mrs Cummine - Posted by: Norbert Collette (friend) on: May 02, 2018
