LUDMILA (LOU) GINTER (AFANASIEF)
Date of Passing: Apr 23, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLUDMILA (LOU) GINTER (nee AFANASIEF) Dear daughter, sister, wife and aunt, Lou passed away peacefully, at home, on Monday, April 23, 2018. Predeceased by her sister Rita, parents, Herta and Victor, brothers-in-law, Ernie and Ken, and beloved husband Henry, Lou will be very much missed by her sister Elsa, nephews and nieces, Hardy, Karin and Ted Bock, Margaret Moulden, Rick, Ron and Chris Gaunt and their families, and many more family and friends. Lou (along with her twin sister Elsa) was born in St. Petersburg, Soviet Union, at the height of the Nazi siege in 1940. Her parents and older sister Rita were able to walk to safety, cradling the young infants all the way to refugee camps in Poland. Following the war, the young family was able to immigrate to Canada in 1948, to start a new life in Winnipeg. Lou and Elsa's stories from their early years in Canada ranged from floating lights in the night sky (neon billboards) to summers in Winkler and Grand Marais replete with "endless" ice cream, roll kuchen and watermelon. Lou began work with Kuehne and Nagel - essentially the only company she ever worked for - immediately out of high school. Her career with K & N allowed her to work abroad in Germany, as well as travel extensively in Europe, Asia and North America. Retiring after 47 years of service to the company, it was clear from the accolades and tributes Lou received from colleagues and customers alike that she was a valued and respected executive and associate. Lou married the love of her life, Henry Ginter, in 1974, settling just outside of Stonewall in Henry's country home. Pool parties, birthday and Christmas celebrations, replete with homemade food from their bountiful garden - Lou was the consummate country host in a home she and Henry were very proud of. Lou never had children - but she had nieces and nephews! And Auntie Lou was just the best Aunt you could ask for. Special trips to the movies, sleepovers with secret cocktails, even trips to Europe for some of the older children. Visits from Auntie Lou were always full of fun, special treats from the kitchen, and secret conversations that you knew were just for you. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Lou's life will take place in early July. A further notice with celebration details will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lou may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee.
