Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHRISTOPHER (BUD) NEWTON 1931 - 2018 It is with gladness, we honour the life of Christopher Hugh Newton and with sadness, we acknowledge his passing on April 30, 2018. (Christopher) Bud reached the age of 87 years, having been born on April 13, 1931 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he lived out his life in its entirety. He leaves to remember him with much love, his wife Margaret (McGarva); his children, Sandy Hull (Randy), Dave (Karen) and Jamie (Erin); also seven grandchildren, Phil Hull (Dallas), Brian Hull (Becca Nowicki), Stevie, Brysant, Cole, Aiden and Logan; and great-grandson Magnan Hull. Holding loving memories of Bud, is his sister Sandra Bancroft (Ted), along with sisters and brothers-in-law: Rose Lock, Gordon and Pat McGarva, Dorothy and Sheldon Herron, Bill and Alice McGarva and Don McGarva. He also leaves an extended family of nieces, nephews and many special friends. Bud was predeceased by his parents, Hughie and Eva; sisters, Shelagh Ashdown (Lorne) and Gerry Lock (Jim) as well as parents-in-law, Bill and Sally McGarva. Bud worked as a City of Winnipeg assessor from 1949 to 1985, when he retired. Shortly after, he was appointed to the Board of Revision, which kept him somewhat busy until he fully retired in 2017. Early interests included curling. He was a lifetime member and past-president of the Valour Road Curling Club. At home, Bud enjoyed the yearly challenge of his gardening endeavours, sharing his bounty as much as his boasts. Working with wood; making projects to share with his children and grandchildren has provided cherished reminders of his love of family. The lakeside cabins were always a favourite pastime; places to bring family together, to work on projects in the shed, and time to do all the fishing, hunting and boating he wanted. Bud found great enjoyment and fulfilment in simply spending time talking and being with others. His Sunday morning group was a significant part of his life. He found joy in his many coffee dates, providing lighthearted banter and silly jokes for anyone who would listen. Dad, you will always be loved and remembered. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 12 at St. Stephen's Anglican Church located at 220 Helmsdale Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba at www.alzheimer.mb.ca or 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. I would like to offer my condolences to Bud's family at this time of sorrow. Bud was my supervisor in the former City of Winnipeg Assessment Department Land Section. Bud was one of those supervisors that let you find your way until guidance and direction was required. Always friendly, smiling and willing to help. Later, I was fortunate enough to work side-by-side with Bud as a member of the Board of Revision. I always felt comfortable having Bud sit beside me at hearings knowing that a clear and decisive decision would be made. He will be missed and never forgotten. - Posted by: Ken Desrochers (Co-worker) on: May 10, 2018

What terribly sad, heartbreaking news. To Mr. Newton's wife, children, and entire family, I offer my heartfelt condolences. I know there are no words. My deepest sympathies are with you. Mr. Newton was a true gem. I worked with him at the Board of Revision and he was always a joy to be scheduled with. He was bright both in intellect and in personality. It was always a good day at work when I got to work with him. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing; he will always be remembered with a smile. I'm very grateful to have known him. - Posted by: Kelsey (colleague) on: May 07, 2018
