Betty was predeceased by her husband Bill McIntyre; in-laws, William and Margaret McIntyre; her parents, Abram and Margareta Klassen; stepmother Helena; siblings, Margaret Klassen, Tina Neufeld, Helen Thiessen, Mary Vermette, and Abe, Annie and Jake Klassen; nephews, Dale Heppner and Harvey Thiessen; and brothers-in-law, Peter Neufeld and Cliff Stobbe. Left to mourn are her daughter Linda Simpson and family; sisters, Nettie Heppner and Eva Stobbe, both of Saskatchewan, Susan Kehler of Alberta; brothers-in-law, Garry Kehler, Don Heppner, Henry Thiessen and Albert Vermette, as well as numerous nieces and nephews throughout Canada. Betty adored her daughter and family. She was looking forward to the birth of Nicole's baby in June. Betty was born in Hague, Saskatchewan on May 25, 1935, to Abram and Margareta Klassen. Betty left home at an early age to work and attend Bible School in Winnipeg and later, trained to be an LPN. Betty loved nursing. She served many dedicated years at Luther Home in Winnipeg before her retirement. Betty married Bill McIntyre in 1977 and together they lived in Winnipeg and briefly, Abbotsford, BC. Betty often remembered with fondness their time together in Abbotsford. Betty had a strong faith and was a parishioner at the Salvation Army Harbour Light and later, Heritage Park Temple in Winnipeg. Betty played the organ, enjoyed travelling, and was a simple prairie girl at heart. After Bill's death, Betty overcame many obstacles of her later years including blindness. She fought these battles courageously and without complaint. During her final years, Betty lived at Oakview Place Extendicare nursing home in Winnipeg. She lived a life of quiet dignity and she will be greatly missed by all that loved her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, the Salvation Army, or charity of choice. We would like to thank the nurses of Grace Hospital 5th floor and Dr. Borrett for their dedication and compassion. Thanks also to the staff at Oakview who cared for Betty these last years. A memorial service is planned for Monday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Heritage Park Temple, 825 School Rd., Winnipeg. Reception to follow.
