MURIEL ESTHER (PORTEOUS) JAMES On May 8, 2018, at the age of 102 years, Muriel passed peacefully away at Park Manor Care Home, with her daughters at her side. Son-in-law, Dave, also there and the rest of family had just left. She had recently decided "enuf was enuf" - changing her mind was never an option. She now joins the love of her life, Roy, who's been waiting for his dance partner for 13 years. Muriel was born April 17, 1916 in Neepawa, daughter of Mary Ellen (Birss) and William Porteous. Except for three years in Port Arthur, ON and two years in Cranbrook, BC, home was mostly in Winnipeg, after early years in Dauphin, Portage la Prairie and Kamsack, SK. She was a veteran, having served in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War. She retired at age 68 as office manager of the Manitoba Institute of Chartered Accountants; previous places of employment include: Woolworths (where she met Roy) and Metropolitan Homes. She was a member of Royal Purple Lodge (one year as Honoured Royal Lady) and Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #7. She enjoyed bowling, golf, bridge and computer solitaire. She and Roy also loved travelling the world and she was an avid photographer. She's survived by her daughters, Pat (Dave) Allan and Kirby (Ron) Pearson; grandchildren, Keith (Tara) Allan and Heather Allan (Dean); great-grandchildren, Kelton (Mel), Kyra, Kayla and Erik, and great-great-granddaughter, Kinsley; also brother-in-law, Vern James (all of the Winnipeg area). She'll be missed by 11 nieces, two nephews, cousins, her church family at St. George's and many friends, as well her 'grand-dogs and cats'. She was predeceased by sisters, Cyn Sabine (1976), Eva Phillips (1955) and baby Gertrude; brothers, Bill (1959) and Donnie. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life is to be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 12, 2018 at St. George's Anglican Parish, 321 Pandora Ave. W., Transcona with Rev. Canon Helen Kennedy officiating. Interment at Transcona Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. George's Anglican Parish, Park Manor Care Home, 301 Redonda St., Winnipeg, MB R2C 1L7, or the Humane Society. The family also sends a special thanks to the staff of Park Manor who provided loving care during Muriel's last five years. Love You Mom / Nana! seasonsfunerals.ca

Sorry I missed the service but didn't hear about it until later, Muriel and Roy were the first neighbours to call in on us when we moved to Transcona in 1972. They were wonderful neighbours and gracious hosts. We had many memorable, happy times with them. My condolences go out to the family. She lived a good long life but it is still hard to say "goodbye." - Posted by: Delsie (Neighbour) on: May 18, 2018

I'm sorry for the loss of your Mom. I was your Dads homecare and your parents were very nice people. I enjoyed seeing them every day. I happened to be with them the morning I received a phone call that my Mom had died and your Mom couldn't have been sweeter. She consoled me for a minute and sent me on my way. - Posted by: patti (wachal) leegsma (homecare) on: May 10, 2018
