Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONNA ARLENE STRICKLAND (nee SPRONG) October 12, 1945 - May 4, 2018 We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Donna Arlene Strickland at her new home in the Kin Place Personal Care Home, Oakbank, at the age of 72. Left to mourn her passing are her son Johnathan Strickland (Rose), daughter Jennifer Godard (Marty), special daughter Victoria Sprong (her great-niece whom she raised), sisters Charlotte Johannson (Larry), Beverley Girard (Ray), brother Hank Sprong (Susan), and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and her beloved fur baby Teddy, who all had a special place in her heart. She was predeceased by her devoted husband John, with whom she enjoyed 47 wonderful years, her dear sister Cheryl Sprong, and her parents Marjorie and Henry Sprong. Donna was born in Selkirk, MB and lived in many interesting places throughout her life including inside Lower Fort Garry as a child. After marrying, she lived for several years in the United States while John served in the U.S. Army. With family as her priority she eventually returned to Selkirk and worked for many years at the family business, Baker Boy Bakery and Catering. Donna began her retirement in British Columbia, but once again family brought her back home. Donna was the ultimate caregiver. Beginning with her younger siblings, she regularly cared for all the children in the family. She loved babysitting and spending time with all her nieces and nephews, especially camping with them at Bird's Hill Park. Her other passions were shopping, taking regular trips to Hawaii and her Diet Coke which was always in hand. Known for her generosity toward everyone, she enjoyed spoiling all the kids. Auntie Donna ensured they had everything they wanted despite their parents protests. We will miss you dearly Mom, Auntie Donna, and Mama Bear! A special thank you to all the staff of Kin Place for making Donna feel welcome and comfortable during her brief stay, and for the excellent care she received. A service honouring Donna's life will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Donna's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation. Condolences, pictures and videos may be left on Donna's tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
