RON EVERETT May 2, 1944 - May 9, 2018 A great man, Ron Everett, passed away on May 9, 2018, with our hearts in his hands. Ron was born in Winnipeg and resided near Oakbank most of his life. The family cottage was where summers were spent and lifelong memories were made. As a young boy, Ron began playing football with the St. James Rods and then the University of North Dakota. Amateur football turned into a career when he was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1966, to then be traded to the Montreal Alouettes. Ron retired from the CFL in 1970 to begin his new career with Marr's Leisure Products. He invested 27 years in the company and only retired when it was finally sold. Ron was a natural leader. His advice was sought out and valued by many. He was passionate about everything he took on. He shared his love for fishing, hunting and football with his sons. Ron leaves behind his wife of 50 years and biggest supporter, Keena; his proudest achievements were his sons, Craig (Michelle) and Grant (Erin); grandchildren, Kate, Brooke, Reed, Loren and Eva; brothers, Linden and Blake, and other close family members. A private service will be held at a later date. seasonsfunerals.ca

Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • My condolences go out to Ron's family. My memories go back to our teen years and the times we had at Falcon beach, the parties at the golf course and the fun times at the beach itself. Ron and Lindsy introduced me to water skiing the hard way. The boat towed the three of us but they gave me the long rope, so on take off guess who went flying. I also have fond memories of the times riding in the Spyder convertible. I was sorry to hear of your passing Ron, but you will always be thought of fondly. - Posted by: Raymond Dumontet (Childhood friend from Pilgrim Ave.) on: Nov 08, 2018

  • Godspeed Ron. I will remember you for the rest of my life as you were a rugged leader who dealt in situations with - in his words, "finesse." You taught all of us life lessons, and the stories we created and good times were many. A tough exterior, but always it was the teddy bear inside you that made you special. Your family will always be special to all of us who worked with you at Marr's. Keena, Craig and Grant my condolences and prayers. - Posted by: Dan Leonard (Friend) on: May 17, 2018

  • Ron, Al Compton, Brian Baxter, Neil McDonald, Wayne Caithness and myself travelled back and forth those many days of high school at Glelawn Collegiate. We were fast friends. Ron was the big guy and more than once he saved me from getting my just due. I remember the many times at Falcon Lake, playing cards and having a few pops and a few cigarettes as long as it was kept inside. We all lived in fear of Ron’s dad Tom finding out. I remember the times that Tom would get a new company car and we had to try it out to see if it would burn rubber at the old asphalt parking lot behind the St.Vital Curling Club. The Black Corvair Spyder would, but horror of horrors the green Pontiac station wagon we discovered would burp a little if it was reversed at a high rate of speed and then slammed into drive. And then the Pontiac convertible. Good times. There was more but enough. Rest In Peace my friend. I wish you a short journey and we’ll see you on the other side. - Posted by: George A Garbutt (Close friend from high school) on: May 12, 2018
