ALYS FINLAY TOMASSON (formerly KELLY) (nee CAMPBELL) Our beautiful Alys passed away in the presence of her family on May 9, 2018. Alys was born to loving parents, Art and Laura Campbell on September 7, 1946 in Teulon, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Shelagh and her brother-in-law Barry Killbery. Alys is survived by her loving husband Brian and adoring children, Renatta (Randy) Chambers of Pearland, Texas, Patrick Kelly (Mandee Deighton) of Winnipeg, Ronald Tomasson (Leigh-Ellen) of St. Catharines, Ontario, Robert Tomasson of Winnipeg and Karen Tomasson of Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Alys cherished her "superstar" grandchildren, Lathan and Ainslee Chambers, Diem Tomasson and Carter and Kate Deighton. Alys will be greatly missed by her sisters, Katherine Killbery and Elaine (Don) Campbell-Logan. Alys is also survived by Loni Tomasson and Keith Tomasson and their families. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. From a young age Alys was destined to be a teacher, and she was always the teacher when she played school with her sisters. Alys went to a one room school in Dundas for grades one and two and then attended schools in Teulon for grades three through 12. She graduated from the Manitoba Teachers' College in 1965 and started her career at Norquay School at the age of 19. Alys was filled with kindness, joy and patience and was beloved by hundreds of her nursery and kindergarten students. Alys believed that her greatest accomplishment was her children. She was a wonderful and supportive mother who always put Renatta and Patrick first. She attended sports and extracurricular events, ensured they spent time with their grandparents and family, sewed beautiful Halloween costumes and she did all of this while completing her Bachelor of Education degree. Alys and Brian were married October 10, 1992 and enjoyed each other's company for 25 years. They worked together to make a beautiful home and took great pleasure in their home and yard filled with flowers. After Alys retired from teaching she took an evening course in interior design. Her home was tastefully decorated and a testament to her innate sense of style. Her family will miss her ability to pick just the right colours or just the right accessories for their homes. The family thanks Dr. Kathleen Ross for her ongoing care over the years, Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care in Alys's final days, Loni Tomasson for her recent at home care of Alys, and Shelagh Vidal for her ongoing friendship and support. A celebration of Alys's life will be held Tuesday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg. There will be a private interment in Dundas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Riverview Health Centre at One Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4 or to a charity of your choice. Alys, you are forever in our hearts and memories. We will love you forever. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

  • Alys was a breath of fresh air in a room. She lit up a conversation with joy and animation. She always had a lovely story or anecdote or comment among our girlfriends when we visited. I loved her grace, her style, the way she spoke, and the way she loved her family. How she will be missed! Be well, Alys! Rest in peace with our Lord. Until we meet again.... - Posted by: Tracey Craigon (Friend of Alys' daughter Renatta ) on: May 14, 2018

  • Alys was a WONDERFUL teacher ! When I was inexperienced at teaching nursery school, Alys very kindly shared all her expertise, resources, and excellent advice with me, day after day. She was endlessly patient and encouraging. We also enjoyed two LOVELY days when Alys & Brian visited us down at the beach ! Alys was always FUN to be with - and she was my friend. 💛 - Posted by: Wendy Winslow (Teaching colleague at Wellington School) on: May 12, 2018
