EVERETT GEORGE LLOYD Peacefully on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, after a courageous battle with ALS, Everett Lloyd, aged 86 years, of Gimli, MB, passed away at home, surrounded by family, and holding his beloved's hand. Everett is survived by Doris, his wife of 60 years; his children, Bruce Lloyd (Jay-Ann), Carol Lindsey (Tom) and Shelly Dankochik (Curt); and his grandchildren, Kieran and Camryn Lloyd, Dawn and Tara Virginillo, and Cassidy and Sarah Dankochik. He is also survived by his sisters, Eleanor, Barb (Abe) and Sheila; and Doris' siblings, Stan (Judy), Ruth (John), David (Lori), Hilda (Ron) and Danny (Jane). Everett was born on November 30, 1931, in Burriss, Ontario. His family eventually settled in the Bonnie Doon area, near Woodlands, Manitoba. On the family farm, Everett learned the value of hard work, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Everett met Doris, the love of his life, on August 7, 1953, and a true love story that endured over six decades began. They were married on October 5, 1957, living in Winnipeg for the first eight years of their marriage, then re-locating to Foley to fulfill Everett's dream of owning his own farm. Everett and Doris moved to the town of Gimli in 1978, to the house where they would raise their three children. Bruce, Carol and Shelly would launch their lives and families from this home. During this time, Everett managed the local arena, where he earned the respect of many young hockey players and figure skaters. He also launched his own painting business, sharing this lifelong skill with his children and grandchildren over the years. Everyone who met Everett appreciated his "glass half full" attitude, the sparkle in his eye, and how he always had a story or a joke at the ready. He had a vibrant volunteer spirit, contributing to his community in various ways, including decades with Gimli Minor and Junior B hockey, the Rotary Club and the New Horizons Club. Everett's passions included golfing, horses, and in later years, going for drives with Doris looking for deer grazing on the side of the road. Everett's true joy in life was his family. Nothing gave him as much pleasure as spending time with his grandchildren: painting eggs, hunting for a "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree, or sharing stories. A celebration of Everett's life will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Gimli, Manitoba. The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring professionals at the ALS Society of Manitoba, the Deer Lodge ALS Clinic, the Gimli Community Health Centre, and the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority Home Care and Palliative Care Teams.
