BERTHA ERNA ADAMS (nee HERMAN) May 19, 1921 - May 12, 2018 Peacefully, with family by her side, Bertha passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on Saturday, May 12, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband, John Stewart Adams, January 4, 2000, her parents, Henry and Amalie Herman, sister Esther and her husband John Deezar, sister Adeline and her husband Henry Martens, and her sister-in-law Nellie Adams. Bertha will be lovingly and forever remembered by her seven nieces, two nephews and their families, and the many friends she made at Parkside Manor and Kildonan House. Bertha was a 64 year member of Trinity Lutheran Church supporting the church until its closing in 2013. She was very proud to be an employee of Eaton's where she began her career in 1953 retiring as a supervisor for the buy line call centre when the catalogue centre closed in 1976. Following her husband's passing in 2000, Bertha moved to 1630 Henderson Hwy. where she made many dear friends. During her 16 years living at Parkside she continued her involvement working on the meal program for 13 years and the "I'm OK" program for seven until finally retiring at the age of 94 when she moved to Kildonan House in 2016. Aunt Bertha was a kind, generous, loving person with strong faith. She maintained her sharp wit and keen sense of humour, enjoying time with family and friends. She had a vivid memory and loved to share stories from her time on the farm in the Pembina Valley with her parents and sisters. When asked what her secret was to a long life she would quickly respond with "hard work and clean living". A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made in Bertha's name to Grace Lutheran Church.
