Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUSSELL ALBERT YEO June 26, 1923 - May 17, 2018 Peacefully on May 17, 2018, our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Russell Albert Yeo passed away. Russell was born in Winnipeg. He was raised in the Weston area and attended Cecil Rhodes School. He made many lifelong friends from the area and was always very proud of his neighbourhood. Russell was actively involved in many sports throughout his school years and remained an avid fan of hockey, soccer and baseball as an adult. Russell began his working career at Anthes Imperial Ltd. (Ancast Industries, Ltd.) in 1939. Like so many of his generation, he joined Canada's war effort by enlisting in R.C.N.V.R. in 1942. He was assigned to the troop carrier H.M.C.S. Prince Henry in 1943. His ship did convoy duty in the North Atlantic as well as the Mediterranean and was also involved in the D-Day landings at Normandy. After the war, Russell returned to work at Ancast where he was employed for the next 40 years. In 1946, he met his dear wife Jean on a blind date and they married a year later. Raising a family and community service became the focus of the next 70 years of his life. Russell was secretary of the USWA Union Local as well as on the Negotiations and Grievance Committees, serving for over 20 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Brooklands and Weston Branch, No. 2 for over 60 years; Empire Masonic Lodge No. 127 and Khartum Shriners (Flag Patrol). He was a member of Home Street United Church serving as an Elder for 25 years. Russell is survived by his loving wife, Jean (nee Ogrodnik); Sharon Entz (Wilf); Kenneth (Janice); Kimberly Morrison (Russell); Gregory; grandsons, Scott Entz; Karl, Erik (Kailey) and Kory (Megan) Yeo; Braden (Alexandria) and Trevor Morrison; great-grandchildren, Adaline, Brendan and Edith Morrison; and Lincoln Yeo; sister Barbara Swaenepoel; plus many nieces and nephews. Russell was a kind, hard-working and fun-loving man, always willing to help others. He lived his life with grace, love and dignity. The world has lost a true gentleman and the lives of those he knew are richer for it. The family would like to thank St. Boniface Hospital ER and E1 departments, Home Care, Winnipeg Paramedics, and Dakota House for their care and concern. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 31 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in Russell's name may be made to the Salvation Army or charity of your choice.
