Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOMAR GEORGE BILOKURY May 6, 1932 May 17, 2018 "You can take the boy out of the prairie, but you can't take the prairie out of the boy!" Omar was born on May 6, 1932, near Wakaw, Saskatchewan and grew up on a farm with his parents and four sisters. He loved life on the land and made agriculture his life's work. He graduated "with distinction" from the College of Agriculture, University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, in 1955, with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. In June 1958, he completed a Master of Science in Agriculture Extension at The University of Wisconsin, USA. He worked for Sask Agriculture, the Pioneer Grain Company and later, Agriculture Canada introducing the Western Grain Stabilization and Nisa Programs throughout Canada. He loved his profession and all the fine people he met in the performance of his duties, especially the farmers! Omar was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Katherine Bilokury, sister Judy (1974), sister Olla (1991) and sister Evangeline (2013). Omar is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lorna, sister Patricia Poole, of Devizes, Wiltshire, England, brother-in-law John Chomyn, of Victoria, BC, brother and sister-in-law, Murray and Joyce Brooks, of Winnipeg and sister-in-law Doreen Brooks, of Winnipeg and their extended families. He also cherished his many cousins and dear friends, and felt the best thing in life was to be 'content'. Omar and Lorna enjoyed travelling to England, France, Spain, Portugal, Ukraine, USA, Mexico and especially wandering the roads in our beautiful Canada. Sincere thanks to all the doctors and health care professionals who helped Omar over the past seven years, especially Dr. Orest Prodan and Deer Lodge Centre. If friends so desire, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with Omar's wishes, a formal service will not be held. Rest in peace, my dear husband and prairie boy. You will be in our hearts and memory. Lorna and Omar are like family to my siblings and me. We have known them our whole lives and they have been a great support to our family. Omar was always there to check on my parent's house when they were away or to pick us up at the airport- a daunting task with three kids and a dog in tow! He was always up for the challenge. I can still remember Grey Cup parties in Lorna and Omar’s basement when I was a little girl. I can picture the “Big O” behind the bar pouring stiff drinks and serving homemade wine with that twinkle in his eye! He was a warm, jovial man and a proud Saskatchewan prairie boy to the core. Our family will miss him dearly. Allison - Posted by: Allison Crane (Friend) on: Jun 28, 2018

Omar and Lorna were a strong presence in the lives of my siblings and myself as long as we can all remember. They were close friends of our family and we shared many of life's moments together. I have fond memories of Omar taking me to watch football games on cold fall days, bolstered by his concoctions of hot-buttered rum. We enjoyed watching many a Grey Cup in his basement den, eating kielbasa sausage and (later) drinking some strong Saskatchewan spirits. Omar was there for many of the milestones of my life with good humor and an inappropriate joke or two. A kind man of tremendous character, it was always comforting to know that he was there - very sad to me that he no longer with us. - Posted by: Brian Crane (Family Friend) on: May 27, 2018

Hi Lorna, we hope you are doing OK, we are so sad for your loss. Omar always had a joke or a story whenever we saw him, and we enjoyed his company which was much too seldom. You take good care of yourself, and we hope to see you at a dinner later on this summer. Peggy & Brian - Posted by: Peggy & Brian McCowan (friends) on: May 24, 2018

Lorna, I am so very sorry in your loss. All these years we have partied, dined and socialized, it is hard to believe Omar will no longer be an active part of those activities. My heart goes out to you. I always enjoyed Omar's goofy jokes from many years ago when we worked in the Richardson Building right through to only a few months ago over dinner at the Silver Heights Restaurant when he reiterated a joke from some years ago involving Saskatchewan farm days! Omar will be missed by many of us. Hugs go out to you at this difficult time. Ciao Lyla - Posted by: Lyla Mobberley (friend) on: May 23, 2018
